A penny for your thoughts?
-------------------------
(Y/N) wandered through the town, exploring the alleys and window shopping at the various businesses. The town felt even more suffocating now, every corner filled with reminders of his rejection. A mother on the other side of the road picked up her kid and coddle her with a smile. A warm smile that now hunted (Y/N) as it was imprinted in his memory. Everywhere he looked, he saw glimpses of what having a reliable mother, or parent would be like.
Loved.
Wanted.
And adored.
All things that he could not relate to, but desperately wanted to feel anyways. It was during times like this that he really mourned the family that he used to have. His beloved aunt and his precious parents...
He had a great life before. Sure, it was normal and slow, but it was worth it with the amount of love that they had showered on him. The voice had said that he would probably never meet again, but there was a small chance. He hoped to see them again, but in the in the meantime, he would live this life and treasure it as well. If Tsunade did not want anything to do with him, then there was nothing that he could realistically do about it. He just had to find someone else.
Or just a more stable place to live in. That would certainly make him happier in the long run. It was constant stress to worry about not knowing where they are going to sleep, how much food they could afford and so on. Maybe he should just go to Konoha...
But where was it... exactly?
Needing a break and unable to find anything interesting, he sat down on the ground, and sighed deeply. He stared at his shaking fists before pulling his knees close and dropping his head onto them. He cried, his body shaking with each sob, but the villagers ignored him, not wanting to get involved with some random child.
He missed his parents. Why could he not wait for them in the afterlife? Why did he have to be reincarnated without them? Why was he cursed with never seeing them again? He would never hear his father make annoying dad jokes anymore. He would never be hugged by his mother, his real mother and not that pathetic excuse of a Senju...
Minutes passed before a stranger finally dared to approach him. He briefly glanced to see a woman who looked plain and unremarkable. She knelt beside him and asked if he was alright. (Y/N) looked up, his eyes red and puffy.
"No, but it doesn't matter. There is nothing I can do about it," he answered which made the woman smile. She decided to sit right beside him, but because of (Y/N)'s grief, he did not dare to maintain eye contact. After putting her hand on her knee, she tilted her head in his direction.
"Why don't you tell me about it?" she offered with another smile. (Y/N) glanced at her, confused as to why a stranger would care. Then it hit him: this wasn't an anime anymore; this was his new reality. These were real people, not just characters. Maybe that was why he was so destabilise by Tsunade acting like that. The woman placed a hand on his head, and (Y/N) snapped out of his thoughts, gently pushing her hand away.
"Please don't do that. I don't know you, and it's weird." She nodded, pulling her hand back.
"You're mature for your age," she complimented him. (Y/N) nodded and muttered a thank you before the woman continued.
"I've never seen such a young child speaking just like an adult. How old are you?" Normally, this would scream 'Danger Stranger', but they were in such a crowded place that there was nothing that could happen to him without someone noticing. Plus, it was just his age. What would she do with it?
"Three." At this, the woman' eyes widened a lot, and she brought a hand in front of her mouth.
"Three? That's impossible! At that age... You must be a prodigy."
"Unfortunate situations bring out unpredictable things," he answered as his knees came closer to him. The stranger nodded.
"Indeed. We've been talking for a while. How about I accompany you to your parents? They must be worried," she said while she stood up. The smile fell off her face when she saw that the boy had shook his head.
"I can find them on my own," he answered. She looked at the child and asked him if he were sure, but (Y/N) nodded with a small smile.
"Thank you, but I'm fine. This isn't the first time this happened to me."
She waved goodbye as he walked away from her. He decided to go to Konoha to get away from Tsunade who he was growing hatred towards. But for that, he would need to know where it would be. He was sure that Shizune would tell him the location and even escort him there. She was always nice to him and encouraged him to form a relationship with the blonde. So, he tried to find his way back to the casino where he knew Tsunade or Shizune would be.
However, minutes turned into an hour as (Y/N) roamed the town, becoming more stressed with each passing moment. His heart raced, and his breathing grew labored. The more he searched, the more lost he felt.
This did not make any sense!
When he ventured out, he always made sure to stay at a maximum of three crowded streets away in case a creep wanted to hurt him. He remembered well the way back. It was... It was as if the streets themselves had changed. He stopped, realizing that he would only get more lost if he continued on like this. As soon as he did that, his surroundings shifted. Instead of the crowded town, he found himself in a dense forest. Fear gripped him as only one logical conclusion came to his mind: he was trapped in a genjutsu. He turned around, trying to find something familiar, but the forest was unnervingly quiet, and he felt eyes watching him.
He could feel sweat starting to form on his temple as he looked around as fast as he could. Afraid that something would sneak up on him.
And something did sneak up on him.
Well... someone.
(Y/N) backed away slowly until he bumped into something. He turned, looking up to see a familiar beige fabric. His heart sank as he met yellow terrifying eyes.
"Hello, little one," Orochimaru hissed.
