Chapter 15: Bye-bye base

Living in that cramped room had gotten a little bit more bearable than before. The familiar, sharp scent of disinfectant had returned, masking the previous odors of sweat and metal. (Y/N) could breathe a little easier, feeling strangely comforted by the sterile smell that reminded him of the other base. He would not admit it, but Orochimaru's decision to add the disinfectant felt like a small mercy.

Talking about him, he had gotten back to spending more time with him, but still not as much as he used to. Not only that, but it seemed like there was something constantly weighting on his mind, clinging to him like a shadow. (Y/N) speculated that it was related to the Akatsuki since the snake person had not been the same since Pain's surprise visit.

Pain... the boy was still confused as too why he had showed up. He felt particularly bothered by it. The purple-eyed man had told the Sannin that if he strayed too far away from the Akatsuki, that he would make him disappear.

(Y/N) shook his head, getting rid of those thoughts. It did not matter, but what mattered was to find a way out. Over the past months he had spent in the new base, he had done something he had never done before.

He went outside his room, without Orochimaru.

It turned out that the room was far away from anything, hidden away in the dead-end of a corridor. He was far away from the main parts of the base, which worked in his favor. While mapping out the hallways, he soon discovered that two guards were stationed near the room. Luckily, they were not looking in his direction, otherwise things would have ended differently. At night, it was two different guards, so there was a time when the two teams swapped.

This was the moment when he needed to strike.

It took six months to figure it out since he moved so cautiously, taking his time to gather the intel. It took a while, but (Y/N) thought that there was no such thing as being too cautious when Orochimaru was involved.

He could not afford any mistakes.

So that part was figured out, but he needed something to assure his escape. That something was a disguise that would allow him to blend in. The first thing that came to his mind was the Transformation Jutsu showed in the first episode of the anime. Thankfully, he still remembered the signs to do it, because all that Orochimaru showed him were exercises to enhance his control over his chakra. Like the leaf concentration which turned in to him having to climb the wall only using his feet and then having to stay on top of water.
