CHAPTER TWO ! innocent exchanges.

" HEY raina! wait up!" carlos says, closing his locker door and jogging to catch pace with the blonde.
she looks back and smiles at the familiar face, "oh hey carlos. what's up?" she asks.
he shrugs, "uh nothing much. fairy godmother signed me up for tourney? whatever that is and i was wondering if you could uhm," he stammers.
she looks up at him, "show you where to go? yeah i can totally. i have a free period so i could actually stay and watch if you'd like," she responds, now leading him towards the field.
he nods excitedly, "uh yeah, i would really like that," he responds, then clears his throat, "i mean i'm cool with that yeah."
the two walk side by side down to the tourney field and raina points to where the locker room is. he walks down and to the locker room to get changed, while raina sits down in the bleachers and grabs her copy of little women out of her backpack.

" HEY! HEY! hey you! lost boy!" the coach yells, pointing towards carlos. he looks up from the inside of his helmet, "put your helmet on. get out of the kill zone! come on."
"kill zone? huh?" carlos asks. he looks up at the stands and sees raina's face. he smiles under his helmet and shakes the nerves out of his body.
carlos gets in position and attempts to play defense against chad but ends up getting flopped on the ground. audrey comes over to the gate and yells up, "raina there's cheer tryouts. if you don't come down here you're not gonna be on the team," she says, pointing her finger like a controlling teacher.
raina rolls her eyes, "audrey i told you i wasn't cheering. did you forget?" she asks.
audrey huffs and stomps back to the group of cheerleaders. raina cheers on jay and carlos as jay is thriving in this scrimmage.
jay continues his run with the ball to the goal and carlos is stammer stepping in front of him, "JAY ITS ME. ITS CARLOS!" he yells. he throws his stick and drops to the ground, covering himself with his shield. jay steps onto his shield and jumps over him, hitting the winning shot. he then throws his stuff to the ground and does a celebratory dance.
the coach blows his whistle and calls jay over for what raina can only assume to be his recruitment to the team.
raina sees carlos walk towards the bleachers and she stands up, "hey carlos. you did great," she lies.
