johnny would be lying if he said he hadn't been thinking about you ever since the night at the drive in with you, ponyboy, and him.

he'd replay those moments of you and him sharing brief glances at each other, although not many words were exchanged between the both of you, but the silence spoke volumes.

a few weeks passed after that night, but johnnys mind was still drifting to those brief moments, he didn't know why, he just did.

ponyboy grinned as he waited for you to pick up, "hey y/n! it's pony. how you been?"

johnny could only here pony's side of the conversation, his mind racing with thoughts of what you might be saying.

"yeah we've been good," ponyboy continued. "listen, johnny and i were thinkin' of heading to the carnival, we thought it'd be great if you join us. what do you say?"

johnny stared at ponyboy, who seemed to be completely at ease, a playful smile tugging at his lips.

ponyboys grin widened as he listened to your response. "cool! we'll see you around seven."

he hung up the phone and turned to johnny, who was still processing what happened, "she's going."

the carnival was alive with vibrant. the warm evening filled with laughter, carnival music, and the aroma of funnel cake, cotton candy and popcorn. strings of twinkling lights crisscrossed above. illuminating the sea of people below. the various rides and game booths, blending with the sounds of laughter and excited shouts.

you, johnny and ponyboy wove through the crowd, the excitement of the night palpable among you. brightly coloured game stalls lined the pathways, each manned by enthusiastic attendants calling to passerbys. the ring toss, dart throws, and balloon pops all promised grand prizes of oversized stuffed animals and glittering trinkets.

as you walked pass the ring toss game, your eyes caught sight of a massive stuffed pink teddy bear hanging as the grand prize. you stopped, admiring it with a wistful smile. "that bear looks so cute." you said softly.

johnny noticed the longing in your eyes. without a word, he stepped up to the game booth and handed the attendant a few tickets. the man gave him a nod and passed him several rings.

ponyboy watched with a smirk, nudging you. "watch this."

johnny focused intently, he tosses the first ring, which landed just short of the peg. undeterred, he tried again, and this time. the ring circled the peg perfectly, he tossed the remaining rings, each one landing squarely on the pegs.
