The rest of the night went by quickly and soon the club was closed for the night. Marissa busied herself helping with clean up and tear down while Fiona and Logan worked in the office and Eddie gathered up some things.
As Marissa was headed back into the locker room to change once she was done, Eddie caught up to her with an endearing boyish smile on his lips.
"Nice work out there tonight," he said as he leaned on the locker next to hers, his eyes roaming her body in that cocktail dress anytime he thought she wasn't looking. "Even Logan was impressed which is no easy feat. Although, don't ever tell him I told you that haha."
"The secret's safe with me," Marissa joked back with him, leaning against her own locker with her regular clothes in her arms. "So does that mean I officially have the job here?" She asked hopeful.
"It does indeed!" Eddie exclaimed with a giant, cheesy but sweet, grin. He handed her an envelope with her name on it. "That's got your pay for today, since today is our usual payday, as well as your schedule for the next two weeks. And, uh, there's a card in there with my, Fiona, and Logan's numbers on it in case you ever need to call out or, you know, just wanna have a late night chat." He said that last part as a joke but he couldn't deny that he wanted her to call them or text them or just ... something!
"Awesome, thank you," Marissa replied with a bright smile that nearly knocked the air out of Eddie's lungs. "Oh and before I forget, here is your lock back." She handed him the lock and key he'd given her earlier. "I really appreciate you loaning it to me."
"It was my pleasure," he said with a playful smirk. He knew he should leave but he couldn't help but linger just a bit more. Something about being around her just pulled him in.
"I should probably get changed and head home," Marissa said as she headed for a stall to change once she realized he was just going to linger there. "Thanks for everything. I guess I'll see you on my next shift. Have a good night!" With that she closed the door and she heard Eddie reply with a friendly, "You too," before he made his own exit.
Marissa quickly changed and left the club, deciding to walk to her hostel since it wasn't too far away and trying to get a cab at this time of night would be a nightmare. She was about ten minutes in to her 30 minute walk when a much too familiar feeling settled over her. She was being followed.
There was a time in Marissa's life when someone following her would send her into a panic, but those days were long gone. Now it was a challenge, almost morbidly fun in a way. Usually she'd try to catch the guy and bleed him for information on why he was following her et cetera et cetera, but she was fucking exhausted tonight and she was also pretty sure if it was someone who knew who she was they wouldn't be so blatant about following her. Tonight, she just wanted sleep.
She took a couple weird turns and then ducked in an alley and waited for him to pass. She made sure he couldn't see her but that she got a good look at him just in case he ever popped up again. She was pretty sure he was just an average street predator out to get the drunk girls on their way home from the club. Disgusting, but easy enough for her to avoid.
With her tail sufficiently shaken, she finally got to the hostel and fell asleep as soon as her head met the pillow.
Meanwhile back at the club, Logan was on the phone with Philip while Fiona and Eddie lounged on the sofa together.
"What do you mean he lost her?" Logan yelled into the phone as he paced back and forth. Ok now he was convinced, she had to be a spy. There's no way she could have known she was being followed and shaken the guy that easily.
"Well did you at least find some information on her in your digging?" Phillip's answer of a first name and general description not being much to go on didn't do anything to calm Logan down. He started pacing even faster, practically making the carpet smoke beneath his feet.
Fiona and Eddie both eyed each other, communicating through looks like they often did. They both got up and went to stand on either side of Logan, stopping his pacing, and then slowly wrapped their arms around him, pulling him into a soft embrace.
Logan's breathing steadied as they held him there. Phillip was telling him he'd have multiple guys tail her next time so they can switch out and she won't as easily shake them and that he'd have guys in the club watching her the whole time she worked too. It was something at least.
"Okay, thanks Phillip," Logan said with a sigh, "I know you all are doing your best and I appreciate it." "We all do!" Eddie chimed in from his place holding Logan from behind eliciting a smile on Logan's lips.
Logan hung up the phone and dropped it onto his desk. He then turned to the side so he could wrap his arms around both Fiona and Eddie, pulling them in close and placing a kiss on each of their heads. He didn't know how he'd survive without these two by his side and he knew they both felt the same way. What they had was special, unbreakable, and he wouldn't trade it for anything.
