I grunted as I pulled myself out of bed, pain filling my every move even months after the incident. I still hardly believe my luck. I had survived being run over by an eighteen-wheeler with only minor injuries, all things considered. The doctors say that it was a miracle that I survived with the injuries I had, after all, not many people would be the same.
I, for one, wish I could meet the demented driver who found me and thought I would make a good bug splatter on his grill. Yet, the police still have to find the one responsible for the hit-and-run. Even after I got a good look at the driver and gave a description of them, after all, they got out and looked right at me, probably seeing if I was dead.
But, I digress, I was alive and happy.
*DEEP THREATENING HONK*
As I turned my head towards the sound, I found the very same truck and driver flying at me through the window next to my bed.
I was dumbfounded as I watched my wall and window explode towards me as the truck came barreling through my apartment. My mind was a whirlwind of thoughts as I tried to rationalize what was happening that instant. However, there was one thought that was at the forefront of my mind.
.
'HOW THE HELL DID IT REACH THE FIFTEENTH FLOOR?!'
.
As the walls of my apartment exploded around me, time seemed to stop with the tuck about an inch before my nose. When the world around me froze, I was scared silly. My mind was filled with thoughts about death and surprisingly cheese of all things. That's when I heard a voice chastising someone about doing their job properly the first time.
I called out to the voice in my mind, asking it to save me. That's when the voice started to scream at the other that they had failed once again. I started to cry in my mind as the truck began to move ever so slightly, millimeter by millimeter. Then, before I could even think, I felt the weight of what seemed like the world crash into me.
At first, it was pure agony before I felt nothing and everything went black. Blackness, the type that absorbed light, covered everything around me. Before I knew it, I found myself being flung to the ground and rolling. As I came to a stop, I found myself in an old bar/tavern sort of place. The voice I heard was there and it was still chastizing someone. As I looked around the place, I found a redheaded woman who looked a lot like Reba McEntire scolding what appeared to be a kid with small white wings.
.
"I can't believe it!" The redhead screamed at the child who cowered in fear, "Because of you, we're six months behind schedule! And to make matters worse, you didn't even do your job properly, twice! Now I have to inform the higher-ups about the time delay."
"B-but-"
"No buts!" The redhead cut off the child, "Unless it's me kicking yours to High Heaven and back! Now, get back to work before I punish you even more!"
.
Then, with a wave of her hand, the child vanished into nothingness. I sat there, on the floor, terrified for my life(?). Soon after, however, the redhead who was screaming turned to me with a sad, but sweet smile. As if she wasn't just screaming just seconds ago.
.
"Sorry about that," She said, beckoning me over to the bar she stood behind, "That was a new hire with barely a century under his belt." She told me with a sigh.
"I understand, I think?" I muttered as I slowly stood and walked over to the bar, my mind somewhat calmed down. "So... may I ask you a few questions, if you don't mind?"
