Would-be Assassin

A/N: Hey guys, I needed a break from Tensura Hero as I come to a complete stop, for now. Anyway, I decided to give this story some love since it's been over a year since I uploaded a chapter. That's all, ~Hawkin.

One month.

That's how long it took before the first assassin from Dian Cecht tried to take my life. Keyword: tried. The would-be assassin tried to openly take my life in broad daylight. In the middle of the busiest street in Oraio. Not by an arrow dipped in poison, or by a knife in the back. But by a duel, issued in the street and forced on me. Just as I was going grocery shopping for dinner that night for Hecate and me. I stood there, salted pretzel stick in hand, and a dumbfounded expression on my face.

Not due to the duel; that wasn't part of it. No, it was the fact that the man shouted that I murdered his father and to prepare for my death. It was a complete rip-off of a movie from my last life. Even down to the name.

Thankfully, I didn't need to do anything since the city guard was right in front of me when the man rushed towards me. The guards quickly apprehended him and asked if I knew what he was talking about. When I said no, the man screamed. Shouting that I was lying and that he would have his revenge. From what I could tell, this man didn't even have a falna and wasn't a part of any familia. When I asked who told him that I killed his father, he outright said a man from Dian Cecht Pharmacy told him that I was the one who poisoned his father to death.

The guards, the street vendors, and those who were just passing by heard him and couldn't help but sweatdrop. It was common knowledge at this point that I was an easy-going guy and my magi-tech was improving the day-to-day life of everyone. Even if they couldn't afford it. Add to the fact that Demeter was a massive fan and consumer of the products, I wasn't someone you could just kill and get away with it.

When I explained it to the man, he didn't believe it and continued to rant about how I killed his father. I sighed and told the guards to take this man away. Now, I knew that Dian Cecht would be a problem until it was resolved. So, once the man was taken away, kicking and screaming, I headed off toward my home. 

Now, normally, I would be worried about Hecate being alone after this happened. But after the Oligarchy was formed, Demeter kept those who would try to force us to back off. Hell, Hecate and I didn't even sell potions, just newbie-friendly introduction books on how to use magic along with all the magi-tech I made. I say I made, but it was mostly just me enchanting the finished product after I got them in stock from the Hepaestus workshops.

But that wasn't to say that I've done nothing during the last month. I managed to finish enchanting Ais's saber. That alone took me two weeks of non-stop work to complete. I even had to change the way I enchanted to work around the massive difference in level between me and the materials. I had to engrave the enchantments into the blade before hiding the work so that someone couldn't tamper with it. Add on the fact that I had to work around the complex Durandal enchantment, and it was a whole can of worms that I was proud of. After all, not just anyone can work with anything that has the Durandal enchantment. 

The main reason I was heading back to the house was due to the fact that this was an open assassination attempt. A laughable attempt, but an attempt nonetheless. I just knew that Hecate would be laughing her ass off once she heard of this. That and the fact that now we had proof that Dian Cecht was targeting us as a whole. I doubt that this would stay quiet since so many people saw it. Rumors were bound to spread like wildfire.

As I reached the door to my home, I could hear laughing from the inside. Curious, I opened the door and walked inside. Inside, I found a trio of Goddesses at the table chatting away. It was Demeter, Hecate, and Hestia who were sitting at the table with tea in front of them. I sighed and made myself known.
