Episode 8: The Hunter's Tale

It was early morning, a couple days after Zane unlocked his true potential. They were going to see a person Felix said could help them decipher the ancient etchings she copied in Ouroboros. Everyone was in the bridge as they approached their destination. The boys, for one, were still in their pyjamas, all cranky from being "rudely" woken from their beauty sleep by a certain Purple Ninja.

"Okay, remind me again why we had to wake up so early just to hear an announcement." Jay groaned, blinking the sleep away.

"Look, we all love to sleep." Felix said sympathetically. "Trust me, I would rather be sleeping than doing this, but we have a mission." She takes a letter out of her pocket and shows it to the others. "I got confirmation that the person who can help us translate the notes about the Fangblades is willing to help. So they expect us to arrive today."

"That's great, but why did we have to get up this early?" Kai asked, running a hand through his bedhead hair.

"Felix said the person lives in a town called Shinzaki," Nya answered. "Which conveniently we're only twenty minutes away from."

"And the woman we're seeing is incredibly busy and only has today to speak with us, so we're going in early because it might take a while." Felix finished.

The map appeared on the screen and zoomed in on their destination. "Shinzaki?" Kai observed. "Isn't that place one of the biggest towns in Ninjago?"

"Oh, yeah, I remember Shinzaki!" Jay exclaimed, suddenly much perkier and awake. "It's one of the coolest places ever. Back in ancient times, they had some of the best warriors, and now it's filled with renowned scientists who work in Ninjago City."

Felix chuckled at her blue-clad friend's burst of enthusiasm. "I've only been there once." Cole said. "They have some really cool shops and some of the best rock climbing spots I've ever tried." He notices the others staring at him blankly. "What?"

"Felix, who are we going to meet exactly?" Zane asked, actually thinking about the mission.

Felix shuffled her feet in an uncomfortable manner, seeming hesitant to answer. "It's a woman named Danae Lopez... also known as my mother." At that, everyone looked shocked, and frankly, Felix didn't blame them. While she loved her friends like the siblings she never had, she wasn't exactly one to share information about her personal life.

"But you said "Lopez." Cole said, still mildly shocked. "How come you don't have the same last name?"

"Yeah, didn't you say your last name is Hunter?" Jay asked curiously.

"Might as well get it over with." The Purple Ninja thought, scratching the back of her neck. "To sum it up, my parents divorced when I was eight. I went to live with my dad, whose last name was Hunter, but when he passed away when I was twelve, I had to live with my mother, but I kept my dad's last name."

Kai looks at Felix with a conflicted look. She accidentally told him that she lost her dad some time ago, and she was obviously uncomfortable talking about this. But they were a team, and keeping secrets wasn't the best way to work together. He then thought about something Felix said when they first met. "When we first met, you said that you preferred being called Felix to your "birth name."

"Yeah, that's right."

"Not to pry or anything, but what is your birth name?"

"Well, it's not really a secret." Felix sighed. "My real name is Fern, but I changed it a while back." When no one said anything, she continued. "Now that that's out of the way, we have a job to do. I'm gonna get the notebook and stuff, and I'll be right with you." And she walked out of the room without looking back, but the others could tell something was up with her.
