Have you ever wanted to be a hero? Well, it's not always easy. The responsibility, the danger, the occasional grief. But the ninjas wouldn't trade it for the world. But, of course, they were not always ninjas. Who were they before? How did they get their start? It all began in the most unlikely place imaginable: a remote village called Ignacia.
In this village, there was a blacksmith shop called Four Weapons Blacksmith, which was owned by a 15-year-old boy named Kai, and his younger sister Nya, who was 13. They were orphans who inherited the shop from their father after their parents disappeared.
Never in their wildest dreams did they think they would one day be swept away on the adventure of their lives. Ignacia was a safe and peaceful place, but it was also boring. Nothing ever happened there. But this is how that all changed in an instant.

On that fateful day, Kai was working in the smithy, talking to himself about crafting the perfect sword. He hammered at the heated metal and moved it to a bucket of water. "To forge the perfect weapon, you first need the right metal and plenty of heat. Cool it off." He plunged the sword into the bucket, cooling the metal. "And... presto!" But when he pulled it out, he saw the blade had become curled and disfigured, rendering it useless. "Aw."
Nya watched the whole thing while running the stall and couldn't help but laugh. Her brother was so impulsive. "You made it too quickly, Kai. Be patient. If Father were still here, he'd say..."
"I know," Kai replied with a sigh. "No matter how much fire you have, experience isn't something you learn overnight. That may work for you, Nya, but I'm gonna be a better blacksmith than Dad ever was."
Just then, an old man approached the shop. He had a long white beard, a staff, and wore a conical straw hat along with white robes and a black belt. He entered the forge and examined the merchandise closely. "Hmm. Your metal is loud and heavy. Useful to slow one down; useless in the art of stealth," he remarked bluntly. "All tools for a samurai, but nothing for a ninja?"
"Ninja?" Kai guffawed. "You're a long way from finding a ninja in these parts, old man. And the shop is called 'Four Weapons,' not 'For Browsing.' Either buy something or go peddle your insults somewhere else."
"Heh. Too bad," the old man remarked, his tone still blunt. "I thought I'd find something special here."
Kai looked at Nya, who gave him a gesture that clearly meant, "Try to make a sale." The spiky-haired teen sighed and went to grab an item. "If it's something special you're looking for, let me show..." He turned to face the man again, but he was nowhere in sight. Like he just vanished into thin air.
"What is it?" Nya asked. Kai quirked his eyebrow in confusion. "He was just... Forget it." He put the helmet back in its place. That would have been it, but that was when everything started changing.
A loud rumble echoed from a distance as ominous black clouds rolled over the hills. They covered the sky over the village, darkening it like it was nighttime. Everyone turned to see a convoy of skeleton trucks driven by the Skulkin, an army of skeletons led by the evil Samukai, who rode on the biggest truck at the front.
"Let me go first! Please, oh please!" one henchman, Nuckal, begged eagerly. He wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. "I'm dying to go down there!"
"You nitwit! You're already dead!" another henchman, Kruncha, chastised him. "Try to control yourself in front of Master Samukai!" He cleared his throat. "Though with all due respect, last time... you did say that... I could go first."
