A few days after their visit to Shinzaki, the ninjas were in the bridge, sitting around the table as Nya and Felix gave a quick lesson on all they learned about this Fangpyre skeleton they found. However, most of them (except for Zane) weren't really paying attention.
"Some villagers unearthed the remains of this Fangpyre a few miles away." Nya said. "It predates the Golden Age and must be hundreds of years old."
"The venom in the fangs of the Fangpyre genetically mutates human cells into reptilian cells." Felix continued.
"We've learned there could be a way to stop the effects without having to create the antivenom." Nya resumes the rest of the lesson as Felix scans their "students."
Zane was taking notes and listening intently, while Kai looked bored and leaned back in his chair lazily. She looked over Cole's shoulder and saw he was drawing a picture of him fighting some snakes. Casually, she watched him continue, and he noticed her staring as he fixed a mistake. But why didn't he get in trouble with her for not listening? He gave a guilty smile, and she just shrugged.
On the other hand, Jay was wearing a new hairdo today and was staring at Nya with interest in his eyes. He sighed in admiration, not really hearing what she was talking about. He was too focused on how pretty she was when she talked smart.
"If one is able to wildly raise their heart rate, hypothetically, it could reverse the venom's effects..." Nya's cheeks started becoming flushed. "...resulting in... diminished..."
"Are you okay, Nya?" Felix asked in confusion, noticing her sniffling.
"Uh, excuse me, is someone wearing perfume?" Nya asked. "I'm severely allergic to perfume." She turned to Felix questioningly.
"Not me; I never wear perfume. It clogs the pores."
Jay nervously stutters, remembering that his new look today involved a new scent as well. "Heh. You told me it was men's cologne." He whispered to Kai.
"Meh, I get them mixed up." Kai shrugged. Everyone laughed except Jay and Nya. After the chuckle, Zane turned his humour switch off.
Cole stretched and stood up. "Well, looks like class is over. Time to start stomping some Serpentine before they find any Fangblades."
"I'm excited to join." Zane added.
"Sounds like a plan." Kai yawned. "Speaking of, Lex, how's the research going?"
"Great. I'll be right with you."
Jay waited for them to leave before turning to Felix with pleading eyes. She nodded in understanding, putting a hand on Nya's shoulder. "I'm gonna show the others what I found in the book so far. Hope you feel better." Nya nodded, and Felix gave Jay a wink as she walked out. She knew how much he wanted to impress her.
Jay takes a deep breath and walks up to Nya. "Uh, hey, Nya. I'm sorry. The reason I was—you know—I went to Kai because... What I'm trying to say is..." He tries to say.
"I know. It's just a cruel joke. I should be fine. Please, go fight snakes." Nya brushes off.
Jay quickly shakes his head. "No, no, no. I was trying to impress you. Before Sensei left, he said our hearts were the key to unlocking our true potential."
"Impress me?" Nya asked in shock, blushing. "But I look so..."
"Fantastic." Jay interrupted. "Look, maybe, if you'll let me, I can take you to some nice restaurant. You don't have to if you don't want to..."
