It had been a few weeks since Lord Garmadon escaped from the Underworld, but no one had seen him since then, so everyone had been pretty chill lately.
It was a sunny day, but the Monastery of Spinjitzu was unusually quiet. Master Wu was meditating in his room when he heard his students nearby. It sounded like they were fighting, so he went to the training yard to check on them, only to find it empty. He then followed the noise to the real source: the games room, where all five ninjas were glued to their video games.
"Zane!" Jay shouted. "Why are you wasting your special attack on me?! You have to save it!"
"Oh, great!" Felix chimed in sarcastically. "I'm running out of lives!"
"But the lesson lives on," Zane replied. "And I'm getting the hang of it."
"Well, you don't have to rub it in."
As the ninjas continued playing, they were oblivious to Master Wu standing there. Suddenly, the TV screen went black, and they all turned to him, displeased. "Aw, man!" Cole groaned.
"What?! What happened?!" Jay asked.
"It took us three hours to get there."
"Ah, Sensei!" Felix exclaimed. "I've only had three go's today!"
"Why would you do that?! Why?!" Jay whined.
"Just because Lord Garmadon escaped through a vortex doesn't mean he won't return one day for the Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu!" Wu scolded. His students were still young and had much to learn, and he didn't want them wasting their time by goofing off all day.
"But, Sensei Wu," Zane countered. "Ever since he's been gone, Ninjago has had nothing but peace."
"Yeah," Jay added. "Peace is boring. There's no one to save; there's nothing to do."
"Can't we train tomorrow?" Kai suggested.
"Never put off tomorrow what can be done today," Wu replied firmly.
"Well, I was gonna save this pizza slice for tomorrow, but if that's the case..." Cole laid back and grabbed the slice, but Wu knocked it out of his hand before he could eat it. "Ow!"
"That's not what I meant! In order to reach your full potential, you must train!"
"Uh... remember when we did a little thing called the Tornado of Creation?" Kai said, rather arrogantly. "I thought that was pretty insane."
"You five have merely scratched the surface of your full potential," Wu sighed. "There are still so many secrets you have yet to unlock! You haven't even begun to tap into what powers your Golden Weapons hold." He glanced at Kai, who was heating his own pizza with the Sword of Fire.
"You wanna talk secret powers?" Cole chuckled. "Check this out!" He used the Scythe of Quakes to plug the TV back in so they could keep playing. Master Wu was clearly exasperated, tugging at his long beard. It seemed he had forgotten how difficult teenagers can be when you tell them to do something they don't want to do.
"Don't worry, Master," Zane chimed in. "We will be ready when Lord Garmadon returns."
As if on cue, Nya ran into the room, looking distressed. "Guys! Lord Garmadon! He's returned! He was spotted approaching Jamanakai Village!" Looks like Zane just jinxed them.
With that, the ninjas got to their feet and scrambled to get ready. Felix made it out the door just fine, but the boys were a mess. They were tripping over each other and couldn't hold onto their weapons. Jay even fell down and Nya had to help him up. "Uh, th-thanks, uh—"
