I watched worridly as San long breathed heavily with beads of sweat covering his body. He was in his childhood form trying to rest as best he could but wasn't able to. "It's ok, it's ok, I'm right here". "G gege". "Sshh, you need to save your strength".

"The new ghost king was here". Yin Yu said coming into our room. "What did he want"? "He came for his one-year-old son". "His son"? He nodded. "A ghost child by the name of Cuo Cuo".

It can't be

" Your Highness the emperor is about to hold a meeting and wants you in at attendance". Ling Wen said.

I have to tell Mu Qing

"Yin Yu, take care of San long until I come back". I leaned down and gently kissed his head. "I won't be gone long".

The meeting took place right away. H O officials stormed in one by one but none of them were in my mind. The only person I could focus on was Mu Qing. All I could see when I looked in his eyes was pain and longing for the man he loved and child he lost.

I couldn't imagine being in his place, I don't know what I'd do if I ever lost San Long but if I'm right hopefully his suffering will come to an end soon. "As some of you have noticed mount tonglu has opened up which means a new ghost king has been born.

We don't know what his or her motives are just yet or what they plan on doing but it'll be best if we eliminate the threat immediately, we don't need them making alliances with any of the previous ghost kings.

Mu Qing you will go to the northern mountains. Xianle you and Shi Qingxuan will head to the south, Pei Ming to the east, and Shi Wudu to the west". "Sir". We all said in unison.

"Mu Qing, I think we should talk before you head out".

"My apologies your Highness but the sooner I finish my mission the sooner I can go home to my empty palace. I won't be good company for you right now. Maybe when I return".

"Mu Qing please".

"I'm sorry".

Mu Qing

In no way, shape, or form was I ok with this at all. The northern mountains were the home of Feng Xin's grave site. His body was left there abandoned without a hint of there being a retrieval mission.

I wasn't even able to say bye to him and on top of that Cuo Cuo was stolen from me, I don't even know what happened to him

I didn't want to do this mission. I didn't want to be here at all but knew I wasn't given much of a choice. If I had declined Emperor Jun Wu would activate my shackle and have me tortured again. That's the last thing I needed right now. My body was already weak from the lack of food I'd been eating and the cut marks on my arms.

"Maybe you should try and get some rest first master". Zhanmado said worriedly.

"As long as I'm here I won't be able to rest, you know that".

"He wouldn't want this".

"He's not here for us to know what it is he would want".

"Master".

The village wasn't much to see. It was small with everyone knowing everyone. It wasn't for me. I didn't want to be social with anyone, I just wanted to finish my mission and go home.

Even though it doesn't feel like a home

The air was cool as Zhanmado rested firmly in my hand. I could sense the winter ghosts watching me from their hiding spots as I walked through the mountains in search of their ruler. I had every intention of defending myself but wouldn't care if I lost this battle.

If I do I might be able to see Feng Xin again. If that happens I can finally have him hold me again

The air changed slightly as I felt an attack coming my way. Quickly I turned around and had Zhanmado's blade clash with the blade of the ghost that was attacking us. It was small but from the aura surrounding it, I could tell it was strong.

"Your far from home aren't you general"? He laughed. All I did was glare at him before kicking him away with my foot. Another ghost tried to sneak up on me but I was able to turn and block their attack as well.

The first ghost charged at me from behind but I managed to kick him away before stabbing the second ghost through the chest. The first ghost came back at me but this time had two friends assisting him.

I created a ball of fire from my hand and bound it to Zhanmado before swinging him and letting out a blast of fire that knocked all three of them to the ground and set them ablaze.

I relaxed a little before continuing my walk only to be met with a sharp pain to my leg. I let out a loud scream as I felt a new snow ghost's claws tear into my legs. I readied Zhanmado for an attack but had my wrist grabbed and twisted by a bigger snow ghost who looked like they had combat training.

I tried to fight him off the best I could but found myself overpowered as he knocked me to my feet and stomped hard onto my back before stabbing his sword into my side.

"What the fuck do you all think you're doing"!?

T that voice

That was the last thing I thought before everything went black.
