Feng Xin

The northern mountains were home to a small remote village that specialized in winter clothes and carts that helped travelers up and down the mountain path with ease. I didn't use them, I was more than fine with walking up the steep path and making my way there.

Once there I took notice to the casual looks on everyone's faces but knew they were all on edge. The emperor only said that there was an increase in snow demons. He gave no information on why there were so many or what they could want. It was obvious to me that he wanted me to find that out on my own.

"It's obvious to me that Hua Ri would be better at handling this".

Fengshen my spiritual device said through our mind link. It wasn't everyone but a few heavenly officials were able to communicate with their spiritual devices and if their weapons were strong enough they could take a human form.

"Will you relax, I'll get you back to Zhanmado before you know it". Zhanmado was Mu Qing's spiritual device and the two of them were very close.

"Sir, would you like to try some hot chocolate? It'll help warm you up". A young lady asked calling out from the booth she was running. She had medium-length brown hair with green eyes and olive skin. From the outside looking in everything looked normal but I couldn't help but feel off about this.

"Thank you, miss". I sat down at one of the tables as she started on the drink. "So what brings you by our little village"? "Just passing by, I'll probably only be here a few days". She came out and placed the drink In front of me.

"I see, are you on some kind of job"? "You could say that". I picked up the cup and pretended to take a sip. "What kind of work are you involved in"? "That's confidential". "I see. A word of advice though, don't go out at night if you do try not to stay out long".

"Any reason as to why"? "There have been a string of disappearances for the last few weeks. Nobody knows why but it might have to do with the new ghost appearances". "I see".

When nighttime came I headed further up the mountain away from the village and everyone that was in it. I didn't want anyone around just so they could get hurt and involve me getting into serious trouble with the emperor.

The last thing I need is to be on his bad side. I've heard rumors of the kinds of punishments he gives and wanted no part in any of that.

The air was already cold but I could feel an ominous chill roll down my spine and held onto Fengshen tighter as I continued my search for the ghost. For a long time, all I could see was dark blue and snow falling around me.

With each step I took my feet made a loud crunch noise as they sank deeper into the snow-covered ground. My ears were alert as they listened closely to the slight swoosh sounds that were made in the air followed by the sound of a woman giggling.

The sound came from all directions making it hard to pinpoint her exact location. All I could do was rely on my senses to guide me and my skills to get me through the battle.

A second later I tilted my head to the side as I felt sharp ice shards coming at me from behind. Immediately I positioned Fengshen and readied one of my arrows. My hand was on the nock of my arrow ready to let go of it as soon as I had my sights set on the enemy.

"Well if it isn't my lucky day. Who would've thought my next victim would be so good looking. I hope you don't have someone waiting for you to return, I don't plan on letting you escape".

"Too bad I don't plan on staying here". I felt a presence behind me and shot my arrow in that direction only to discover there was no one there. "Fast reflexes as well, you're a strong one indeed. Tell me, who was it that trained you"?

"That's classified ". I added more arrows to Fengshen's string and shot them all in different directions only to be met with a cold blast of nice. My arm covered my eyes shielding them from the snow as my hair came a lose and flew behind me.

Very slowly I uncovered them to see a woman with icy blue hair, pale skin, and matching pale blue eyes standing in front of me wearing nothing but a blue-white dress.

She's stronger than I thought

"The emperor didn't say anything about her, it's almost as if he wanted this to happen".

"Don't be ridiculously Fengshen, his majesty wouldn't do that".

"Ask for help then".

I did just that. With my free hand, I placed two fingers on my temple and entered the communication array only to find myself blocked from entering. My eyes widened in shock a little before I tried a second time. I was met with the same response, the third time was no different.,

"Mu Qing can you hear me"?

"Feng Xin? What's wrong"?

"Oh no you don't"! The female ghost yelled out swinging her arm, I planted my feet firmer onto the ground the best I could as the snowstorm increased.

This isn't good

"Master".

Fengshen called out to me sadly. I knew exactly what he was thinking. The ghost we were dealing with was a supreme. We were nowhere near prepared for this and there was no backup coming to help us in a fight. Mu Qing would come if I could get through to him but the risk of losing him is too great.

Having no other choice I closed my eyes, positioned my arrow, and gathered all of the spiritual power I had at the tip of it. She was reading her own attack. I could see a light blue ball of light forming in between her hands as she stared at me smirking. The last thing I remember is our attacks colliding together.

I'm sorry my love
