Mu Qing

It was early morning as we both got ready to head to a meeting Emperor Jun Wu was calling for. It was last minute which meant it was urgent and serious. I tried to calm my nerves the best I could but I couldn't help but wonder what would happen after the meeting if I wasn't sent on a mission and Feng Xin was.

"Qing, is everything ok my love"? He asked making his way over to me and taking me in his arms. "Yeah, just worried about what this could all be about". "Whatever it is I'm sure everything will be fine. If we aren't ordered to go on a mission how about we come home and I'll run you a bath hm". "That sounds amazing, thank you".

When the meeting was about to start I took notice to all the officials that were there. His Highness was here along with the Shi siblings, Ming Yi, Lang Qianqiu, the rain master, and even Hua Ri. She was a new elemental master but a lot of heavenly officials were suspicious of her since she resembled Hua Cheng a lot and controlled the fire element.

The only one who was more suspicious than her was her best friend Xie Li who controlled the lightning element and resembled Xie Lian.

"Thank you all for coming on short notice. There has been an increase of snow Ghosts in the dark mountains and I'm assigning one of you to go there and take care of the problem".

"I'll go right away, sir". Hua Ri said. He glared at her. "Did I say it was going to be you"? "I'm the elemental master of fire, it only makes sense that I go". "I don't want you on this mission, General Nan Yang will go. He's more than capable of handling this matter on his own". "Sir". Feng Xin said without hesitation.

"What are you doing? Why aren't you questioning this? It makes sense for Hua Ri to go not you".

"I am skeptical about this but we shouldn't question his majesty's orders and cause trouble for ourselves".

"At least help me convince him that I should go as well".

"No, I want you to stay behind in case Cuo Cuo needs you".

"Feng Xin".

"Please Qing. Do it for me".

"Promise me you'll come back".

"I will never leave you behind".

After saying my goodbyes to him I headed back to my palace to try and relax the best I could. I had no idea why I was so stressed about all of this. Yes, Hua Ri would be better at handling the job but Feng Xin is no pushover either.

If he was he wouldn't have been his Highnesses bodyguard nor would he be a general right now. It's foolish of me to worry about him. I know what he's capable of but I just can't shake the bad feeling I have in my gut.

"Mu Qing". His Highness called out as he made his way over to where I was. "I thought you would be heading back to Puqi shrine". "I can tell when one of my friends is stressed. Wanna talk about it"? He sat at the coffee table while I continued to lean against the wall with my head down.

"It feels like I wanna throw up". I whispered. "Are you worried about Feng Xin? That's a first". "We both know Hua Ri is better qualified". "That's true but I'm sure his majesty has his reasons. What can I do to help take your mind off of things for a bit"?

"I don't know". I whispered once more. "I know, why don't you tell me a story about your mother".

Flashback

"Momma! Momma where are you"!? I cried as I sat up in my bed. Everything was dark as I had just woken up from a nightmare and my eyes hadn't adjusted to the dark yet. I didn't need to see anything though. Within seconds I felt her warm arms wrap around me and started to calm down.

"It's ok Qing, it's ok. Mommas here, your safe my love". She spoke softly as her hand gently stroked my hair. "Is dad here"? I whispered. "No honey, your father isn't here. You and I are both safe, he can't hurt us anymore". I rested my head in her lap.

For as long as I could remember my father hated me for being smaller than the other kids. In his eyes, I was nothing but a failure that wouldn't amount to anything. My mother has been the only one to show me love and affection. The only one that takes up for me and defends me.

It has always been just the two of us that's why I try to get her her favorite things as a way of cheering her up when she's having a bad day but the academy kids always need to start picking on me and getting me into trouble.

They lie and say I'm trying to steal fruits or that I had stolen one of their fruit baskets and was looking to get more. If it wasn't for his highness I know I would be locked up and my mother would have no one to take care of her.

"I love you so much Mu Qing, no matter what anyone says you are worth it. You are the most important thing in my life and always will be". "I love you too momma".

Outside flashback

Without saying a word he made his way over and hugged me. "Everything will be ok Mu Qing".
