Chapter 77

After having dinner, the team returns to the base while Zhao Qi returns to her home.

As soon they get inside the base, Tong Yao quickly runs to her room and shuts the door with a loud bang.

Seeing her anger, Lu Yue says, "Brother it's not safe for you to stay with shorty tonight. She might kill you."

Lu Sicheng: "I've got no option. She'll kill me if I don't go to the room."

Then he shakes his head before making his way to their bedroom. He slowly gets inside and closes the door without making much noise. He notices that the lights of the room were off. It was dark. He slowly climbs into the bed beside his wife.

Then suddenly Tong Yao turns towards him and tightly hugs him. "Brother Cheng, promise me that you'll never leave me for anyone else!" she utters.

Lu Sicheng smiles. ".....But didn't I promise you that long ago?"

Tong Yao raises her head looks at her husband in confusion.

Lu Sicheng lifts her hand and brings it to her face, pointing at the two rings on her fingers.

"I, once again, promise you that I'll never leave you for someone else, baby. Our love is very strong and we have a strong bond with each other. I can never stop loving you, my dear..... I love you...." he says.

While Tong Yao's mind was busy processing the words she had just heard, Lu Sicheng pulls her into his embrace and kisses her lips.

She happily replies back to the kiss. She had received what she wanted. Yet, this was another romantic night for the couple.

The next day, the team was busy preparing for their next match.

The next day

It was time for another ZDGX match in the Onmyoji arena. Everyone was well prepared, this time again.

And guess what? ZGDX won this match too!

The members are on their way back to the base camp.........

Tong Yao looks at Lu Sicheng to confirm that he was sleeping. She slowly takes out her phone and begins to text in her 'secret' group.

In chat:

Tong Yao: Fatty, did you buy the cake?

Little fatty: What?! I had to buy the cake?! I thought you were going to bake it.

Tong Yao: What?! When did I say that?! You were supposed to buy the cake!

Little fatty: But no one told me!

Xiao Rui: Stop fighting guys! I'll order the cake!
Which flavour?

Tong Yao: Red velvet

Xiao Rui: Okay. I'll be ordering soon.

Awakened by the sound of typing, Lu Sicheng asks, "Who are you texting?" with his eyes still closed.

Tong Yao gets startled by his sudden response. She quickly closes the chat window and puts her phone down. "....nobody....." was all that leaves her lips.

Lu Sicheng opens his eyes and looks at the little girl sitting beside him.

Then he places his arms around her and hugs her from the side, before closing his eyes once again and falling asleep.

'That was so close..... Almost got caught,' Tong Yao thinks.

Soon the team arrived at the base. The members quickly got off the bus. It was already night time, so the members went to their rooms to sleep. Lu Sicheng too, along with Tong Yao, drifted off to sleep.

It was around 11:30 pm, when Lu Sicheng rolls around on the bed, unable to sleep. He couldn't feel his wife anywhere around him. Still he decides to wait for a while for her to return since he thought there were some possibilities of her to be in the washroom.

A little while later

Lu Sicheng had been on the bed for a while but his wife had still not returned. Tired of waiting, he picks up his phone to look at the time.

'12:04 am' - the phone displayed.

He gets out of his blanket, pushes his feet into his slippers and walks out of the room.

In the darkness, he somehow manages to hold the railing of the staircase and walk down the stairs.

It was pitch dark. "Tong Yao...." he calls.

No response.

"Tong Yao?" he calls again, walking towards the living room.

Suddenly, the lights turned on and a loud, "Surprise!" was heard.

"Happy birthday, captain!" the members shouted in joy.

The room was decorated with balloons and decorations. There was a 'happy birthday, Chessman' poster hanging at the back. Moreover, a mouth watering cake was aligned at the centre table.

Lu Sicheng was indeed in shock, yet a smile slipped onto his face.

Lu Sicheng: "You all remember?"

Lao K: "Of course, we remember Brother Cheng. How can we forget our captain's birthday?"

Little fatty: "Yes, brother Cheng. Come on, let's cut the cake."

Lu Yue: "See, all you're interested about is cake. Is it my brother's birthday or your birthday?"

Fatty glares at him.

Lu Sicheng: "....Anyways, let's cut the cake."

Lu Sicheng stands infront of the cake, admiring the design.

Tong Yao: "Brother Cheng, make a wish."

He slowly closed his eyes and wished, "I wish me and my team always remain like this. Happy and together. Enjoying each moment as the days pass.... I wish that me and my wife remain together forever and live with happiness in our lives..... We'll have kids and our family will be happy forever, just like we both our right now...."

He opens his eyes and blows out the candles. He was about to cut the cake, when a question suddenly pops up in his mind. "Who's idea was this? To throw a surprise birthday party at 12:00 am?" he asks.

Xiao Rui: "Of course, it was your beloved wife...."

Lu Sicheng smiles as Tong Yao blushes.

"Happy birthday to you..... Happy birthday to you.... Happy birthday dear captain..... Happy birthday to you...." the members sang as Lu Sicheng cuts his cake.

Happiness and joy spread around the atmosphere as the everyone ate the cake and enjoyed the celebration.
