The days had dragged on with no sign of Minji, and you were increasingly frustrated by the lack of progress. The note you had found in Katarina's club remained an enigma, offering more questions than answers.
You spent countless hours in your office, poring over the note and reexamining every detail of the case.
Despite your best efforts, the connection between the missing girls and Katarina was still elusive.
Then, out of the blue, you received a text message from Katarina, inviting you to meet her at her apartment for another round.
The message was casual, almost too casual, and despite your reservations, your curiosity, and the need to gain more insight, overrode your hesitation.
Without informing anyone, you revved up your motorcycle and sped through the city streets.
When you arrived at Katarina's apartment building, it was clear that the place was modest, with a narrow staircase leading up to the small, worn-out units.
The apartment itself was unremarkable, small and compact, with thin walls that made it easy to hear any noise from outside.
You took a deep breath, steeling yourself before knocking on the door. Moments later, Katarina opened it, her usual confident smile in place.
"Hey, you made it," she said, her tone welcoming. "Come on in."
You stepped inside, taking note of the apartment's simplicity.
The living area was cramped, with minimal furniture and a few personal touches that spoke of a well-lived but modest space.
Katarina gestured for you to sit on the worn-out couch.
"Make yourself comfortable," she said, closing the door behind you. "I'm glad you decided to come over."
You sat down, trying to keep your composure as you scanned the room for any signs of hidden compartments or suspicious items.
"I wasn't sure if I should come," you admitted. "I've been thinking about the case a lot lately."
Katarina settled beside you, her proximity making you acutely aware of her presence.
She seemed relaxed, almost too relaxed, given the gravity of the situation. "I understand. It's been a rough few days for you, hasn't it?"
You nodded, trying to gauge her reaction. "Yeah, it has. I just need to know if you've heard anything that might help with the investigation. Anything at all."
Katarina's eyes narrowed slightly, but her smile remained. "I might have heard some things. But you know, it's not always easy to get reliable information."
As she spoke, you couldn't shake the feeling that there was something she wasn't telling you.
Her calm demeanor contrasted sharply with the tension you felt about Minji's disappearance.
"So, you didn't mention much about the club," you said, trying to sound casual. "Is there anything you didn't tell me that might be important?"
Katarina's gaze flickered with something you couldn't quite place, perhaps amusement or calculation. "Oh, there's always more to the story, isn't there? But let's not talk business right now."
She leaned in closer, her hand brushing against yours in a way that seemed almost deliberate. "Why don't we enjoy our time together? Sometimes, taking a break from the stress helps clear the mind."
You resisted the urge to push her away, your mind racing with thoughts of the case and the unsettling note you had found.
The room's thin walls were a stark reminder that this was not the place for intense conversations or confrontations.
