After concluding the formalities of the interview, you led Momo out of the meeting room, guiding her through the corridors of the police department."Miss Hirai," you said as you walked, trying to maintain a professional demeanor. "I reviewed your files and everything you provided during our previous meeting. You seem like a perfect fit for the position."
Momo nodded, a mixture of relief and anticipation in her eyes. "Thank you, ma'am. I'm eager to contribute."
You reached Jaesung's old office, now empty and bathed in the quiet hum of the building.
The room was stark, with a solitary desk in the middle, a computer on it, and a pencil case filled with pens and other office essentials neatly arranged.
It was a poignant reminder of the vacancy left by Jaesung, a void you had yet to fill completely.
"This will be your office," you explained, opening the door and gesturing for Momo to enter. "It was Jaesung's office before... well, before everything happened. It's still set up with all the basics you'll need."
Momo entered, taking in the room with a thoughtful expression. "It's a nice space," she said, her voice carrying a touch of reverence. "I'm sure I can make it work."
You nodded, stepping further into the room to show her the various components. "The computer is equipped with the necessary software and access to the case files. The pencil case has all the basic stationery. If you need anything else, just let us know."
Momo glanced around, her eyes landing on the desk's surface where a framed photo of Jaesung sat, a silent testament to the man whose shoes she was stepping into.
She looked up at you, a hint of empathy in her eyes. "I understand it must be tough, coming in after someone so important. I'll do my best to live up to the expectations."
"Thank you," you replied, trying to keep your voice steady. "Jaesung was an exceptional detective, and I'm sure you'll bring your own strengths to the team."
As you finished showing her the room, you could see Momo's resolve and professionalism. Despite the weight of recent events, she seemed ready to take on the challenge.
You just hoped that her presence would bring some stability and relief to the department in the wake of the turmoil.
With a final nod, you said, "I'll leave you to settle in. If you have any questions or need assistance, don't hesitate to reach out."
Momo nodded, her expression earnest. "I appreciate it, ma'am. I'll make sure to reach out if I need anything."
After showing Momo around and getting her settled in Jaesung's old office, you couldn't ignore the gnawing worry in the back of your mind about Chaeyoung.
The image of Rina's bloody hands and the smug grin on her face haunted you, pushing you to make sure Chaeyoung was truly alright.
You hurried back to the infirmary, your footsteps echoing through the sterile hallways.
When you reached the door to Chaeyoung's room, you paused, taking a deep breath before stepping inside.
The sight of her sitting alone on the bed with bandages on her face hit you like a punch to the gut.
She looked up as you entered, her eyes brightening slightly, but you could see the pain she was trying to hide.
Without a word, you closed the door behind you and rushed to her side. "Chaeyoung, are you okay?" you asked, your voice thick with concern as you sat down next to her.
