As you left Sunhee's house, you felt a growing sense of urgency. The information you had gathered seemed to fit together, but you needed more time to process it.The quiet suburban street was suddenly interrupted by the blare of sirens.
Your phone buzzed again, and you saw Jaesung's name on the screen. You answered, his voice tight with worry.
"Y/N, we've got another situation. Sunhee's been found dead, and it looks like the killer left a note. Get here as soon as you can."
Your stomach tightened. "I'm on my way."
When you arrived at Sunhee's house, the scene was chaotic. Police and forensics teams were swarming the area.
Jaesung approached you, his face a mix of frustration and concern.
"Y/N, we have a problem," he said, pulling you aside. "Sunhee was found in her kitchen, shot. The note left behind had a new message, but we haven't had a chance to decipher it yet."
You followed Jaesung to the kitchen where Sunhee's body was covered with a sheet.
The note was being carefully examined by the forensics team. Jaesung handed you a copy of the note. It was written in a neat, almost clinical script.
"Trust can be a dangerous thing. Those who harbor secrets must pay the price."
You frowned, scanning the message. "This doesn't give us much to go on. But it's clear the killer wanted to send a message. And it's personal."
Jaesung nodded, clearly agitated. "We also have a problem. Some of the officers are starting to suspect you. They know you've been investigating this case closely and that you were at Sunhee's house right before the murder."
Your eyes widened. "Why would they think I'm involved?"
"They see a connection between you and the victim, and your physical description matches that of a woman seen near the scene. They're getting paranoid," Jaesung explained.
You took a deep breath, trying to calm yourself. "That's ridiculous. I've been working on this case to find the real killer. We need to stay focused on the evidence and not get sidetracked by false suspicions."
Jaesung looked at you, concern etched in his features. "I believe you, Y/N. But we need to clear this up quickly. The last thing we need is for the investigation to be compromised."
You nodded. "I'll do whatever it takes to clear my name. But for now, we need to figure out who the killer is and what their next move might be."
An officer burst into the crime scene, breathless and frantic. "Detective Y/N, we've just received another urgent call. A woman matching Katarina's description was found stabbed at her apartment. There's a note with her, and it's signed SCY."
Your heart sank. "Where is she now?"
"At the hospital," the officer replied. "They're holding her for treatment."
You immediately pushed through the crowd of officers and detectives, heading towards your car. "I'm going to the hospital. Keep me updated on any new developments."
The drive to the hospital felt like it took forever. Your mind raced with fear and confusion.
If Katarina had been attacked, it meant that the killer was moving fast, and you had to find a way to piece together the puzzle before anyone else fell victim.
When you arrived at the hospital, you rushed through the lobby and made your way to the intensive care unit where Katarina was being treated.
The doctors and nurses were working to stabilize her, and a small crowd of officers and investigators were already there, discussing the case.
