The military camp was under strict guard all night. Everyone was on high alert because of the peeping incident, and no one bothered about the missing child anymore.
Surprisingly, the next morning, the child appeared again outside the Changfeng Camp. He was shirtless, wearing oversized and thin trousers. Standing barefoot on the snow that had accumulated overnight, a flame-shaped mark on his chest stood out conspicuously. It seemed as though the flame was heating him up entirely, for he didn't tremble or show any signs of cold in such icy conditions.
When the soldiers approached him, he only said five words: "I want to see Li Shuang."
Coincidentally, Li Shuang was gathering her subordinates for a wartime meeting, partly to educate Li Ting and partly to prepare for defense against the Western Barbarians during the winter.
The soldiers brought the child to her. Seeing the child dressed so scantily, everyone was somewhat surprised, except for Luo Teng, who angrily slammed the table: "You little bastard, coming and going as you please, do you think our Changfeng Camp is an inn?" He then turned to Li Shuang and said, "General, this disrespectful kid, tear him apart and feed him to the dogs!"
Li Shuang scrutinized the child, her fingers curling slightly as she tapped the table. "Why did you run away last night, only to return now?" she inquired.
The child gazed back at her, eyes clear and bright. "I wanted to see you," they replied calmly. "The farther I went, the more I wanted to see you."
The room full of generals was taken aback by the audacity of this little wolf cub. Despite his small stature, he dared to flirt with a woman who had once been the renowned 'Tiger General' in the capital. No one dared cross her. But since arriving in the borderlands, a few presumptuous commanders had challenged her because of her gender. Those few no longer held positions in the military.
Over the past three years, she had become an iron-willed general in the eyes of her subordinates, her gender blurred. Now, hearing such words from a child amused her. "Oh? Is it because I'm special?" she asked.
"Yes," the child replied directly. "You're very special."
Special enough to make him lose control...
Leaning back with a hint of amusement, Li Shuang asked, "So, what should we do? Yesterday, I brought you back out of pity, but you ran away. Now that you've returned and want to stay, it's your own choice. However, my Changfeng Camp doesn't accept useless people. Tell me, what skills do you have? Why should I keep you?"
"I can be your soldier."
"Be a soldier?" Luo Teng scoffed. "That's amusing. Even our youngest recruits are bigger than you. What abilities do you have?"
The child met Luo Teng's gaze squarely. "I can kill you."
As his words fell upon Luo Teng, accompanied by his eyes similar to a wild wolf from the frontier, bearing a chilling aura of death, all the soldiers present couldn't help but shiver. Even someone as rugged as Luo Teng sensed the murderous intent in his gaze.
This kid... wasn't just talking. He truly intended to kill Luo Teng.
"Hmph." intimidated by a child, Luo Teng felt he couldn't back down. Immediately, he shouted loudly, "Fine! Come on! I'll spare others the trouble. Let me tear apart this arrogant little brat myself!"
"Luo Teng!" Qin Lan's gentle reprimand came from the side, making Luo Teng glance aside, only to catch Li Shuang's gaze lightly flicking towards him.
Luo Teng then calmed down. In the military camp, under everyone's watchful eyes, for a vice commander to seriously engage with a child was indeed inappropriate.
