Chapter 17

"H-hey, monster!" Grim shouted into the mine from his spot in front of the entrance. "I'm, uh... I-I'm over here!"

"Grrraaawrrr! BEGOOOOONE!" The monster roared as it came closer.

"He's comin' our way! (Y/n)!" The kit yelled as he leaped out of the way. The demon called for the monster's attention from the left of the mine's entrance. "Right over here, monster!"

"Grrurgh? Thieeef thiiis waaay tooooo..." The inky monster turned to the demon taunting it. "Neeevvva giiive stooones! Neeevvvaaa!"

Enraged, the monster began to thrash around wildly, trying to land hits on (Y/n) and Grim.

"Eep! If it lands one of those punches, we're toast!"

"Then let's lure him as far from the cave as we can," (Y/n) called.

"Begooone! BEGOOOOONE!"

The monster chased after the Avatar of Gluttony, who effortlessly evaded its attacks.

"We got his a good distance from the mine!"

"We're counting on you!" The demon called to their human allies.

"You bet. I got this! One extra-large gust of wind, comin' up!" Ace said and sent his spell at the monster.

"With a side of Grim's blazin'-hot fire! MYAAAH!"

Together, the winds merged with the flames and became an incredibly powerful attack on the monster.

"Grrraaahhh?!"

"How's that taste?! With my winds fanning them, even Grim's feeble flames can become an inferno!"

"Whaddaya mean 'feeble'?! Ya really don't know how to shut yer mouth, do ya?"

"Now's our chance!" (Y/n) ignored the two squabbling behind them.

Closest to the mine's entrance was Deuce, trying to concentrate.

"Just stay calm, aim carefully...and pull out the biggest, heaviest thing I can think of..." He mumbled to himself before steeling his thoughts and casting his spell. "Get 'em, cauldron!"

"Gwaaah?!"

Just like the first time he summoned it, the cauldron landed on the inky monster, crushing its victim under its weight.

"Nailed it! The plan's workin'!" Grim cheered. "Look, (Y/n)! That monster got smashed flat by a falling cauldron, just like Ace did!"

"Coulda done without the reminder, thanks! This has been one drag after another."

"Quick! While it's distracted, we need to get that magestone!" Deuce nudged the others.

This was what (Y/n) was waiting for. They grabbed the kit by his scruff and pushed him into the arms of the red haired boy.

"Hey! Wha-"

"You boys take Grim and go get the magestone," (Y/n) sternly told Ace. "I'll handle the rest from here."

"Myah? But..?"

The demon gave the three a reassuring smile.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine."

With those words, the boys ran into the mine with Grim. Once they were out of sight, the inky monster began to growl and struggle. The Avatar of Gluttony turned to the nuisance currently trapped under the large cauldron. Glaring down at it, the demon felt their anger fuel their hunger.

"Now it's my turn."
