"Can I talk to you?" Peter asks me, walking over to me. I glance at Peter; he looks nervous and angry. A part of him looks hesitant, like he isn't sure if he's doing the right thing.
"Sure" I answer standing up and following Peter. Henry follows the both of us, apparently having invited himself into the discussion. I'm sure he figured I'd tell him afterwards, or even Peter might tell him. The two have gotten quite close, they're opposites but somehow seem to balance each other out.
I follow Peter into a room and raise an eyebrow as I see Milo, MJ, and Ned sitting down on a white couch waiting for us. "Is this an intervention?" I ask, unsure what I need an intervention about, but it seems to be where this is headed.
"No" MJ assures me, I sit down on the couch across from the three of them. Henry sits down next to me, I give him a glance and he shrugs, he doesn't know what's going on either. Peter hovers next to me, not sitting down but not going back to MJ and Ned either.
"Peter, what is going on?" I ask, I glance over at Ned and MJ who are looking at Peter, I glance at Milo whose face is expressionless. He holds my gaze for a few seconds before glancing at Peter. Peter sighs slightly and turns to face me.
"This holds information on Clover's killer" Peter informs me, gesturing towards the white folder sitting on the glass coffee table. I blink but grab the folder and cautiously open it, a lump forming in my throat when I see a picture of him. His name is Zed Hallow, he's twenty-five and lost his family when a building was bombed, my heart sinks slightly even though I already knew this. Rage fills me, Zed killed Clover, he killed her for no reason, his quarrel wasn't with her. I blink as I read he's been hunting down and killing mutants ever since the bombing, no wonder he was able to get into Stark towers, he's been planning this for almost half my life.
I'm about to turn the page when Henry places his hand on top of the sheet of paper I'm reading. "Is this a good idea?" Henry asks seriously, he then glances over at Peter.
"I thought it might help Storm if she's the one who arrests him and brings him in" Peter answers, glancing at me. Oh, Peter thinks I'm going to arrest him and bring him in, I try to keep a neutral expression at the thought, not wanting Peter to get suspicious. Henry raises an eyebrow and glances at me, I avoid eye contact.
I turn the page and glance at Peter as I see an address written down. "How'd you find this information?"
"Tony did, I stole it" Peter answers, I smile slightly at the idea of Peter stealing from Tony, he would never have dreamed of doing something like that three months ago. It does touch me, the fact he's happy to steal from Tony because he thinks that it'll help me process Clover's death faster, but only one thing can help me grieve Clover. I need to kill Zed; it has to be done. He is killing innocent people and that isn't okay, it needs to be stopped.
"We estimate you have a day until Tony realises it's missing" MJ pitches in, glancing at me. I glance down at the file, the address isn't far from here, a couple of hours would be enough time for me to get there and back.
"I'm going" I decide, glancing at Peter. Peter nods in response, not looking cautious at all. My heart sinks as I realise that I'll be letting Peter down, but I need to avenge Clover. Clover died because of me, the least I can do is avenge her.
"Want company?" Milo asks me, the look he gives me indicates he knows what I'm really going to do. I don't think he cares, maybe because he knows he'd do the same thing if he came face-to-face with the mutant that killed Tessa.
"Be safe, okay?" MJ says, embracing me. Ned hugs me after MJ, he doesn't say anything, but he doesn't have to, I know what he's thinking.
"Call me if you need anything and I'll be right there" Milo says, hugging me tightly. Despite not knowing Milo for long, I do feel close to him, probably because he was there for me when I lost Clover, he was so gentle and supportive.
Peter hugs me and leaves the room with MJ, Ned, and Milo. Henry turns to me raising an eyebrow as he gives me a pointed look.
"Killing him isn't going to bring back Clover" Henry informs me.
"I know" I answer, glancing at Henry. Henry gives me a small nod and I walk out of the room.
