*At the Secret Mansion*
*Kate’s Room, Late Morning*Kate sat on her bed, the weight of her captivity pressing heavily on her shoulders. The previous night’s encounter with Matthew had left her trembling, and the morning felt bleak. She knew she needed to face the day, if only to keep her mind occupied.
*Downstairs, Kitchen*
The kitchen was bustling with the usual morning activities, though the atmosphere was more subdued than usual. Ava, the head maid, was preparing breakfast, her concern for Kate evident in her every move.
Kate descended the stairs slowly, her anxiety palpable. Ava looked up and greeted her with a warm smile.
Ava: Good morning, Kate. How are you today?
Ava asked gently. Kate managed a small, tired smile.
Kate: Morning, Ava. I’m... okay, I guess. Just trying to take it one day at a time.
Ava poured a cup of coffee and handed it to Kate.
Ava: I know things are difficult right now. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask.
Kate: Thank you, Ava.
Kate said, accepting the coffee gratefully.
Kate: I appreciate it.
As Kate started to eat, John entered the kitchen, his imposing presence casting a long shadow. He observed her for a moment before speaking.
John: Morning, miss.
John said, his voice as gruff as ever.
John: Hope you’re finding everything you need.
Kate looked up, her eyes filled with apprehension.
Kate: Yes, thank you. The breakfast is fine.
John’s expression softened slightly, though he remained stern.
John: Just so you know, you’re not going anywhere. Sir made it clear that you stay put.
Kate’s shoulders slumped.
Kate: I understand. I’m not planning to go anywhere. I just want to understand why this is happening.
John’s gaze was intense but not unkind.
John: Sir has his reasons. You don’t need to worry about them. What’s important is that you stay out of trouble and follow the rules.
Kate nodded, trying to steady her voice.
Kate: I’ll do my best. I just wish things were different.
John’s expression remained hard, but there was a hint of sympathy in his eyes.
John: I get it. But for now, just focus on keeping your head down and getting through the day.
Kate finished her breakfast in silence, her fear mingled with a faint glimmer of hope from Ava’s kindness and John’s reluctant understanding. Despite the grim situation, these small moments of human connection provided a small, though significant, measure of comfort.
*At the Stirling Heaven Hotel*
*Hotel Lobby, Early Morning*Matthew and Moris were preparing to leave the Stirling Heaven for their important business meeting. The opulence of the hotel lobby did little to soothe Matthew’s focus; his mind was already on the agenda and the strategic discussions ahead.
Moris, carrying a briefcase and a stack of documents, followed closely behind Matthew.
Moris: We should have enough time to get to the meeting venue if we leave now.
