*At Hospital*
Kate's eyelids fluttered open, her vision hazy and blurred. Her body felt heavy, and she could barely move. The beeping of the heart monitor was a steady reminder of her fragile state. The hospital room, dimly lit, seemed like a strange and distant place. Harper, who had been seated quietly by her side, noticed the change immediately.
Harper spoke softly, tears in her eyes
Harper: Kate, sweetheart? Can you hear me?
Kate tried to focus, her lips parting as she attempted to speak, though her voice was barely more than a whisper.
Kate: Aunty...?
Harper’s eyes filled with tears as she gently touched Kate’s hand.
Harper was choking on her sobs.
Harper: Oh, Kate, you’re awake. Thank God, you’re awake. We were so worried.
Kate's eyes welled up with tears as she tried to smile. Harper carefully brushed Kate's hair away from her face, her touch tender and loving.
Harper: You’re so strong, Kate. We all love you so much. You made us so much worry dear.
Kate's voice barely audible.
Kate: Matthew?....where is...he?....is he....ok?
Harper: Yes, honey. He’s been here the whole time, talking to you, he went to have a talk with doctor.
Harper’s tears continued to fall as she tried to comfort Kate. She held Kate's hand tightly, her own trembling.
Harper: I’ve missed you so much. Now everything is fine. No one will trouble my dear now.
Kate: D-dont cry now, I'm fin-ne.
Harper just nodded with a smile, still tears falling down her face. She kissed Kate's forehead.
Kate: where are other's.......Moris?....is he fine?
Harper: He is fine too, wait let me call others.
Harper, wiping her tears, went out to call for other. The room door creaked open, and James and Tom entered, their faces showing a mix of relief and exhaustion.
James voice started cracking.
James: Kate! You’re awake. Thank God.
Tom: We were so worried. Matthew’s been running himself ragged.
James moved closer to Kate, his eyes filling with tears.
James: You’ve always been strong, Kate. I’m so glad you’re awake. We got so scared.
Kate: uncle James...are you ok?...you retrieved.... the papers back from..father.... right?
James took her hand in his.
James: I am okay daughter. And for now Just focus on getting better. Dont think much about papers or anything.
Kate: bu--
Tom: calm down miss Kate. We’re going to make sure you have everything you need. Just rest now.
James and Tom gently squeezed Kate’s hand before stepping back, allowing John, Moris and Ava to approach.
Ava stood beside her smiling through her tears.
Ava: Kate, it’s so good to see you awake. You had us all so worried.
Moris: Yes, Kate. You’re a fighter. We knew you could make it.
Kate spoke with a faint smile.
Kate: Thank you...everyone...
