Chapter 36 : a bastards promise

It was now a couple weeks later , it was now November meaning you had been in school just shy of four months . You don't even want to discuss what happened at the week long different Halloween parties - you went to three out of seven . The first Halloween party you were dressed as a pink playboy bunny , that was a great night , got lots of attention . Choso didn't like how much satoru kept trying to get you to dance with him - satoru and you were neck and neck on "who's dressed sluttier?" At every Halloween party .

The first party you were a play boy bunny - ass and tits basically fully on display . First party he was a fireman , shirtless , black pants , suspenders and the hat .

The second party you and Yuji went as men in black - you were wearing basically an idea of a button up blouse - it was barely buttoned , the tits were OUT , a tie and a short black skirt whilst Yuji wore an inflatable alien costume that ended up getting popped via his own stupid drunk actions. The second party he was the devil . Also please note that satoru is the most lazy person ever . He basically wore the same thing just without the suspenders and had Red Devil horns .

The third and last party you went to on Halloween night you were a Victoria secret Angel - easily the most scandalous costume of the week , large Angel wings and just lingerie. Sukuna and the other two brothers basically guarded you the whole night like guard dogs on rotation . Sukuna was the main one shoving people out of the way if they got too close . Yes he did get escorted out after punching mahito in the face , mahito put his arm around your waist and pulled you close to him whilst you two were talking - sukuna did not like how his hands were lingering . Unlike last time with Nahoya he didn't even give him a warning he practically flew across the room like super man and socked him in the jaw .

But now you were sat in the library with haibara , mahito and nobara . You had originally come to the library with nobara to study since some midterms were coming up and you'd rather study now than worry later . But then you spotted haibara so you both sat with him - then mahito just invited himself . "this sucks" mahito said scratching his ear , "maybe it wouldn't suck if you just listen to what haibara tells you" nobara responded in an aggressive whisper .

Haibara smiled at you all , "I can explain again if you want - it's totally okay mahito don't worry" he whispered . Mahito exhaled , "I'm gonna go for a smoke - y/n you coming?" He asked you , you perked up like a deer in headlights . For once you were in a deep focus . Your face turned pensive , "I'm not sure mahito we have the math test to study for" . Mahito shrugged , "kento will be here in 20 we can smoke before he comes - come on , yknow you wanna" . Haibara's face perked up when the name fell from mahito's bitten lips .

Nobara also stood up but she was holding her stuff , "sorry guys I gotta go- PA yknow how it is" , "pa?" Haibara asked .

"Pussy appointment" you and nobara said in sync . You hugged her goodbye and smiled at her , mahito threw his arms down like an impatient child, "come on nobara is gone we can go too" . You stared at haibara , "you didn't even consider haibara" . "Oh I don't smoke" haibara said smiling , "see" . "No you idiot I mean leaving him alone" . Mahito screwed his face up , "he'll be fine kento will show up soon enough - come come come" mahito said grabbing your hand and leading you to the upstairs of the library

"Mahito we are not smoking in the library" you said firmly , he "psshed" in response , "not in the library , on the library" he said laughing as he opened the staff only door to the roof of the library . He skipped over to a ledge that you could see the city lights starting to fill the sky , the sun was gonna start setting soon . He sat down and ushered you to sit with him . Mahito got his grinder out and started grinding down the bud. You stared at the distant city , "pretty isn't it?" He said with a smile lingering in his tone. You nodded , "how did you know you could even come up here?" . "Baby I know everything" . "That's just not true in the slightest sense" you laughed at him .

"How much do you smoke a day?" You asked furrowing your eyebrows , mahito shrugged as he began rolling for you two . "Depends how shitty the day is" he half laughs. "I don't think smoking is a good coping mechanism" , "yeah? I don't think having sex with your best friend is a good coping mechanism" he spat back , his eyebrows furrowed , his lips downturned .You let out a small gasp of surprise and mahito's eyes closed, "sorry- I didn't mean it. Just kento is getting on my case about this shit and even fuckin suguru is. Who cares it's just a bit of smoke?" mahito said in a softer tone but the anger remained in his body language .

"But it's not just smoke is it?" You said biting the inside of your cheek. "Well- no. But this is new-ish. It's on and off , yknow pills , sniff , tabs . It just comes and goes . I'm not a junkie I'm not addicted - jus' makes things easier I guess" he said he began mumbling whilst licking the paper to seal it . "Why do you do it?" "That's like saying - why do you feel pressured to lose your virginity? You feel like you have to when in reality you don't really need to at all. With that mindset I could quit everything right? But I don't think I wanna?" He rambled , you listened .

" But life's a bitch then you die right?"

"Or life's a bitch and you keep living"

He smiled at your statement and sparked his lighter , lighting up and inhaling . "I'm sorry for trying to get you to do lines with me- kento was right I'm a fuckin idiot" he smiled apologetically and passed the blunt to you. You took a long drag before passing it back , "when did you first start - like everything"

Mahito laughed and blew smoke out of the side of his mouth. "I wanna say i was 13-14 ish , my parents uh- they had sat me down the Saturday before and announced to me , they said- they uh...my dad - he said . 'Son I think you're old enough to finally know that - you aren't actually our blood . You're adopted . So you can stop blaming us for your shitty life since we didn't even bring you into it' a bastard I'm a bastard can you believe that? I'm sure you could . Never knew my parents - apparently I was put up for adoption when I was two because I was too much for my parents . But then my ma- she was drunk I musta' been 15 so a year or so later she says to me , 'you ended up just like your parents - you're a fucking junkie just like them' isn't that funny? Must run in the family huh? - well anyways I started when I was like 13/14ish I was friends with the older kids , yknow wanna impress them . I like showing off - so this guy he gives me a tab - all the guys are there so I'm feeling intimidated and I just say 'fuck it' and I do it right . First time I did anything 'nd I felt...I dunno it felt right. I loved it I wanted somethin new every time I could after that . Then I got old enough to buy my own. Another long story short , parents caught me - sat me down , told me I'm adopted and then put me in rehab. Fuckin bullshit" he said taking another long drag then passing it to you.

Sympathy in your heart pang when mahito explained his story to you . It wasn't even his fault when he initially started drugs . And since he has an addictive gene it's no wonder he got dependent . Maybe that's why kento was being such a hard ass to him . Since mahito is starting doing more drugs than just weed again . You leaned forward and hugged mahito , enveloping his head between your arms , "I'm so sorry" you whispered out , he was careful not to have the blunt near you when he hugged you back , "don't feel bad- it's my own fault . I've been to rehab three times . Rehab is always supposed to be my fresh start - I always fuck it up . I never learn y/n I don't know why I do it- promise you'll never do any drugs any more than weed . Please- don't go down the same road I am"

You nodded and sat back and held his free hand , "I promise ." . He smiled at you softly .
