Hermione's POV;
She was bent over a book she had gotten from the Goblins when there was a knock on the library door. It immediately pulled her out of her concentration, she scowled at the door. Harry never knocked unless he had gotten into trouble - and Tom never knocked because he felt it was beneath him. The pillock.
"Come in!" She called and was a bit surprised by Alphard Black waltzing in like he owned the place.
''Black,'' she said in a questioning tone. ''-what are you doing here?''
He smiled at her, and she swallowed harshly at the sight. The smile almost seemed fond, but that couldn't be true, they barely knew each other!
"Hello Granger, Hadrian thought you would've forgotten the time, so I offered my gracious self to get you." He replied with a dramatic bow. She couldn't help but roll her eyes with a smile.
"Gracious? You?" She snorted but stood, she had forgotten the time, the meeting was already on its way, but if she had understood the plans for this meeting correctly, there wasn't much she would miss that she didn't already know.
Alphard offered his arm, and Hermione held back another roll of eyes. What was it with these purebloods, always acting proper? Not that it didn't make her feel special, as if she was in a romance novel. Not that she would ever, ever, ever admit to that out loud. Harry would tease her relentlessly.
"Were they already discussing the research we are trying to prove?" Hermione couldn't help but ask.
Alphard looked at her questioningly so she started to explain. "We have gathered evidence that Squibs are the reason for Muggle-borns." She told him with barely supressed glee, he looked at her gobsmacked.
"Really? What are you going to do with this information? There will be a lot of opposition to publish it."
She shot him a mischievous look. "Lord Peverell and Lord Slytherin backing up this research? They would be stupid to try and censure it." Alphard could only blink at her, and Hermione continued on.
"But think of the possibilities! All those old family lines that people think have died out? They can be brought back, the Wizarding World can only be richer in knowledge and-"
"You're beautiful." Alphard blurted out, seemingly mortified after a moment when his own words sunk in. Hermione blinked slowly a couple of times but could feel her cheeks warm.
"Thank you,"
Alphard took a deep breath. "My apologies, I just couldn't contain myself, you should be told every day how beautiful you are and how everyone should be envious of your mind." His voice told her that he truly believed that.
Hermione turned her eyes down, finding it too hard to look Alphard in the eye for the moment. "That's very kind of you to say."
''Granger- Hermione, it's only the truth.''
She looked into his grey eyes, searching for a lie, but couldn't find one.
''But why are you telling me this? There must be some sort of reason?''
