“Here.”
After traveling down a few hallways and passing many rooms, Jing Yuan gestured y/n to stand in front of a door, “this will be your room until Dan Heng can come get you.”
She gave him a look, an unasked question just waiting to tumble out of her lips.
“Something the matter,” Jing Yuan asked when he noticed how she wasn’t making a move to open her door. As for y/n, she started to hesitate. She wasn’t sure if she should ask him or not, but…there wasn’t any harm in doing so, right? So, she gathered up any remaining courage she had left to look him in the eye.
“About the last time we talked to each other…”
“Yes?”
“What did Blade mean when he said to form a contract between you and me?”
Jing Yuan closed his eyes in thought for a moment before sighing and smiling down at her, “let’s sit down and talk.”
She nodded at him and went to grab the door handle, turning it, she pushed the heavy wooden door open with ease. Taking a quick look around, she noticed a bed, a bookshelf, a dresser with a mirror, and even a coffee table with some chair around it. This room was way better than her whole apartment!
Jing Yuan went to her bed and sat down, then looking at y/n, he patted the place beside him, “come here.”
She went to him. Her eyes regarding him with curiosity and fear, “whatever he said, she knew would determine what happens next.”
“You originally had a contract with the Stellaron Hunters, but since you were fired, the contract was left unfinished. Which means that they plan for you to owe them the work some other way. I’m not entirely sure since I do not know what all in your contract was, but whatever it was it was enough to have both Blade and Kafka escort you to their headquarters, well, before Blade ended up escaping with you, that is.”
“So what is the contract with you about?”
“By forming a contract with me, your work for the Stellaron Hunters will be nullified.”
“I see… so I’ll be working for you then?”
“Not quite.”
She frowned at that, so Jing Yuan went to elaborate.
“Blade may have said to offer the job to you, but it isn’t that esay as Blade doesn’t seem to understand what a contract truly is.”
“So the contract can’t be something as simple as working for you?”
Jing Yuan nodded, “correct.”
“So… what type of contract nullifies the Stellaron Hunter contract?”
“Only a few come to mind…, but I don’t think you’ll like the answer.”
She nervously played with the sleeves of her shirt, her eyes holding worry as her whole body felt jittery with nerves, “just- just tell me.”
“A marriage contract would be one way.”
She immediately shook her head, “what’s another?”
Jing Yuan grinned, “have you ever heard of the mara struck?”
Just as she was about to answer, a doorbell rang throughout the house. Jing Yuan merely mused to himself as he stood up, “we can save the conversation for later because I believe that is your dearly beloved.”
Jing Yuan stood up from the bed and held his hand out to her, “shall we go greet him?”
She nodded as she took his hand. Her thoughts swirled with unease and doubt as she tried to think of what she was going to tell Dan Heng.
“You still have my card, the one with my number on it, right?”
She nodded again, “yes.”
“Give me a call when you think you have nowhere else to go or anyone to rely on. And I can get you out this mess with little to no trouble.”
“Alright… I’ll- I’ll think about it.”
“Good girl,” Jing Yuan said as the two of them made it to the front door. And just as Jing Yuan opened the front door, Dan Heng barged right in. His eyes fixated on y/n almost immediately, “y/n-“
Before he could finish whatever else he was about to say, she had jumped right into his arms, her hands grabbing at the fabric of his jacket as she stuffed her face into his chest, “I’m so sorry for all the trouble I’m causing.”
She hoped that everything would work out. She truly did.
