The sound of Taylor's voice echoed through the packed arena, her powerful notes resonating with the energy of thousands of fans. "Karma" was the final song of the night, always the most electrifying, and tonight was no different. The lights shimmered, and the crowd erupted into applause as Taylor took a bow. She waved, her heart swelling with the familiar rush of performing. Amsterdam had been amazing, but she was ready to wind down.
As she left the stage, her thoughts drifted to the night ahead. Travis, her boyfriend of a year, along with his best friend, Pat, and Pat's wife, Britt, were waiting for her backstage. Travis's presence always brought a mix of comfort and excitement. Their love story, which had started with a friendship bracelet, had captivated the world, but to Taylor, it was the small, intimate moments that mattered most.
She quickly changed out of her blue Midnights bodysuit, eager to reunite with their friends. She was greeted by Travis's familiar, inviting smile, his 6'5" NFL tight end frame standing out even in the crowded backstage area. He enveloped her in a tight hug, lifting her off her feet. She laughed, and her exhaustion seemed to melt away.
"Tay, you were incredible. You rocked that stage tonight," Travis said, his eyes crinkling with a spark of pride.
"Thank you, I love when you are here with me," she replied, lightly kissing his cheek. "I'm starving. Let's go eat."
Pat and Britt joined them, and the group of four headed to one of Amsterdam's top restaurants. The night air was cool, a welcome relief from the heat of the stage lights. As they stood outside the restaurant, Britt grabbed one of Taylor's bodyguards.
"Can you take a photo of us?" she asked, handing him her phone.
The four of them huddled together, their smiles wide and genuine. Pat, in a sudden burst of spontaneity, decided to switch things up.
"Alright, everyone say... 'Britt's pregnant!'" he shouted just as the photo was taken.
The announcement hung in the air for a split second before the group erupted in cheers. Britt beamed and positively glowed. Travis and Taylor hugged them both, caught up in the joy of the moment. Pat and Britt already had two young children, whom Taylor and Travis adored, and now a third was on the way. As the excitement settled, a knot tightened in Taylor's stomach. She was thrilled for Brit, but the announcement stirred up memories she had kept buried. Memories she hadn't shared with Travis.
She thought back to her six-year relationship with Joe, a British actor who had been as cold and distant as he was ambitious. Unexpectedly, she found out she was pregnant and was overjoyed at the thought of starting a family. She had always dreamed of becoming a mom and had imagined the moment of telling her partner she was pregnant countless times. She quickly planned a special surprise for Joe, setting out a onesie and the positive test on their bed. But Joe's reaction had been anything but supportive. He ranted about their careers, their lack of privacy, and his upcoming film release. She had tried to reassure him, but he wanted her to terminate the pregnancy and eventually stormed out.
Her world started crumbling around her, yet she managed to carry on with meetings and preparations for her new Eras Tour. One Saturday morning, she woke up feeling different. The morning sickness that had plagued her had eased. She made herself some tea and sat down at her piano to work on mashups for the tour's opening cities. It was easy to lose herself in the music, picking songs to blend together and finding hidden meanings when paired. Suddenly, a sharp cramp tore through her stomach, and she doubled over in pain. She struggled to breathe through the agony that radiated from her back and wrapped around to the front. She stood slowly, realizing she was bleeding.
"Erica, HELP! Erica!" she screamed for her assistant, who was working in the office on the other side of the house. Erica wanted to call Joe, but Taylor told her it was pointless, this was what he had wanted. She lay in the hospital bed, devastated at the thought of not becoming a mom and knowing this was the end of any relationship with Joe.
