Taylor's marketing team had flown into Kansas City to finalize details for the last leg of her Eras Tour. They were gathered in the newly renovated office space in the basement, which also doubled as the new podcast studio for Travis. They had moved everything from Travis's old house to streamline security and reduce travel time across town.
Travis had just finished recording this week's podcast episode with Jason and decided to hang out upstairs, giving Taylor and her team the space they needed to work. He still had a couple of days off before the season opener, so he busied himself by emptying the dishwasher and throwing laundry in the wash. He noticed several boxes that had arrived from London. Travis sent a quick text to Taylor to make sure she was okay with him unpacking.
"Can I start on the London boxes?"
"Sure! I was hoping to get a start on them today, but we're going to be working a bit longer. Everything should be laundered and labeled. If you could just lay it out, I'll help put it away in our closet later.💋" Taylor quickly replied.
"I'm on it boss Taytay.😘"
He looked at the pile of boxes and then down at Benjamin, who rubbed against his leg. "This is not all going to fit in our closet, Benji," he muttered, beginning to haul the boxes upstairs.
Meanwhile, downstairs, Taylor carefully chose her words with her marketing team as they plotted out the Easter eggs for her fans, discussing the planned drop of Reputation (Taylor's Version) during her New Orleans show. Only Travis knew she was thinking of postponing the next album and tour. She didn't have the album ready yet; just a jumble of lyrics, melodies, and ideas. Taylor needed to speak with her dad and Tree first, and she wanted her mom's support when she told them she wanted to pause.
She had watched Adele announce a similar decision on TV recently, saying she wanted to live the life she'd been building in the background. Taylor wanted that too. She wanted the wedding, the celebrations, and to start trying for a baby without being on tour. She imagined herself as a stay-at-home mom, driving through the school pickup line, maybe even attending PTA meetings with Drew, her ever-present bodyguard, by her side. She could almost see their faces: walking into that first PTA meeting, Drew behind her, scanning the room as the other moms and dads sat there, jaws dropping in disbelief. The thought made her giggle.
Her team glanced over, eyebrows raised, catching her moment of distraction.
Taylor quickly straightened up, flashing a bright smile to cover her wandering thoughts. "Sorry, just thinking of a funny Easter egg idea," she said, brushing off their curious looks. She could feel their eyes still on her, sensing that something was different, that her mind was somewhere else entirely. She had always been quick on her feet with creative ideas, but today not so much. Her heart wasn't in it like usual.
She laughed lightly, hoping to deflect any lingering suspicion. "You know, just imagining the chaos of a secret message hidden in a school pickup line. Could be a fun twist for the next music video," she added, improvising. Her team chuckled politely, nodding along, but she could see they were still watching her closely, trying to gauge what was really on her mind.
As they resumed their discussion, Taylor took a deep breath, refocusing on the meeting, but her thoughts kept drifting back to that daydream.
Travis worked through the boxes, methodically unpacking each one and placing its contents carefully on the bed. Everything was meticulously organized and labeled in vacuum-sealed bags, just as Taylor had instructed. He pulled out a bag labeled "Street Wear" and another marked "Casual Clothes," all neatly packed and compressed, ready to be sorted.
As he continued, he found bags filled with shoes, carefully tucked into protective covers, and a small stack of books she had probably been reading during her downtime. He laughed softly, knowing how Taylor always managed to read two different novels at once. He placed them on the dresser and moved on to the next box.
