The next afternoon, the backyard buzzed with laughter and playful chaos. The smell of brisket wafted through the air from the smoker, where Travis and Pat hovered, keeping a close eye on the progress. The kids were running around with unbridled energy, their giggles filling the space as they chased each other around the pool, tossing water balloons and splashing anyone who came too close.
Bradley, Gigi and Khai had arrived just a short while ago, and it didn't take long for Bradley, a die-hard Eagles fan, to start playfully ribbing Pat and Travis about the upcoming NFL season.
"You know, the Eagles are looking pretty solid this year," Bradley grinned, a twinkle in his eye. "I wouldn't be surprised if they take the Chiefs down a peg or two."
Pat smirked, taking a swig of his beer. "Oh, come on, man. You really think your boys can handle our offense this season? I mean, I get it...you have to dream big."
Travis joined in, leaning against the patio bar with a mischievous smile. "Yeah, Brad, it's cute and all, but let's be honest, last season was just a warm-up for us. This year, we're coming in hot."
Bradley chuckled. "Oh, is that right? Well, we'll see about that. I've got a feeling Hurts is going to break some hearts, including yours."
Jason, who had been standing by, chuckled and added, "Hey, I'll give you that, Brad. The Eagles look good this year, but let's be real... feels more like a rebuilding year than a guaranteed championship run."
Bradley shook his head, grinning. "Oh, come on, Kelce! Don't give me the 'rebuilding year' talk. We've got this."
Jason laughed. "Hey, I'm rooting for them as much as anyone, but you know how it goes... building a strong team takes time. You gotta be patient."
Travis nudged Jason with a playful grin. "Speaking of time, you're almost on the clock for ESPN, right? The first Monday of the season? You ready to trade your helmet for a microphone?"
Jason nodded, smiling. "Yeah, first show's coming up soon. I'm excited but a little nervous, too. Gonna be a big change, but I'm looking forward to breaking things down on air."
Pat raised his beer. "Man, I'm just happy to hear you're finally gonna put that big mouth of yours to good use!"
Everyone laughed, and Bradley chimed in, "Hey, Jason, you know, I'd make a great guest on your podcast. Let me on there sometime, and I promise to bring the heat. I've got some takes that'll stir things up!"
Jason grinned. "Oh, I don't doubt that, Brad. We'll have to get you on, but you better be ready to back up all that talk."
Travis laughed. "Yeah, Brad, don't think you can just walk in and take over the show. We've got a reputation to uphold!"
Bradley smirked. "Oh, don't worry, I'll be the best guest you've ever had. Just let me know when you're ready for some real football talk."
"Alright, deal," Jason chuckled, "We'll see if you can handle the pressure. Just don't expect us to go easy on you."
The lighthearted banter continued, with each side throwing playful jabs and bold predictions, while Blake, Ryan, and their four kids arrived, adding even more life to the already lively scene. The kids, ranging from toddlers to preteens, quickly joined in the fun, running around with the others, inventing new games on the spot and letting out delighted squeals.
Inside, the kitchen was a hive of activity. Taylor, Kylie, Britt, Blake, and Gigi were busy preparing a feast to accompany the brisket. They moved around each other with ease, chopping vegetables, preparing salads, and making sure there were enough sides to feed the crowd of hungry friends and kids.
