"Momma!" Travis's voice rang out with a mix of excitement and nervous energy as he pressed his phone to his ear, pacing back and forth in his room. He could feel his heart beating a little faster than usual, a combination of anticipation and sheer adrenaline coursing through his veins.
Donna Kelce's warm laughter filtered through the phone. "Travis, are you ready? Do you have the ring? Is everything planned? Flowers..." She was firing off questions faster than he could answer, her voice bubbling with joy and excitement.
"Mom, I got it all covered," Travis reassured her, though his voice wavered just slightly. He stopped pacing and glanced out the window, trying to steady his thoughts. "I'm just trying to find the right words, you know? Tay, she's so good with saying what she means in the most elegant way, and here I am, a guy whose words of wisdom always seem to be from 80s and 90s song lyrics," he confessed, a nervous chuckle escaping his lips.
Donna laughed, knowing her son well enough to sense the anxiety masked beneath his humor. Despite being a towering strong man professionally, Travis was still her loving, enthusiastic youngest child who did everything with all his heart. "Oh, honey, you don't need to have it all written down," she said gently. "Just speak from the heart. In the moment, you'll know exactly what to say, and she will love it. Trust me."
Travis let out a sigh, feeling the tension in his shoulders release just a bit. "Thanks, Mom," he replied, his voice softening. "I'll call later, and we can celebrate when we're all together next Sunday... That is, if she says yes," he added, the nervous chuckle returning.
Donna's voice was filled with confidence. "Travis, that girl loves you more than the moon and stars. She will say yes. Good luck."
As the call ended, Travis paused for a moment, the phone still in his hand. He contemplated whether he should call Taylor's parents, but decided not to. Scott already knew it was coming soon; they had spoken about it when Travis was in England. While they were in in London, Taylor was busy with sound checks, Jason and Travis decided it was the perfect time to have a man-to-man chat with her dad, Scott. They took him out for a pint at a pub just down the road from the stadium. Travis had planned on bringing up the proposal himself, but Scott beat him to the punch.
"Trav," Scott began, raising his glass with a knowing smile, "you know I've always been an Eagles fan, being from Philly and all, but I'd make an exception for my son-in-law. Sorry, Jason," he added with a hearty laugh, giving Travis a playful slap on the back.
Jason, never one to miss a beat. "Whoa there, Scott, giving up on the Eagles already? That's because I retired, right?" he joked, his voice loud enough to make a few heads turn at the bar.
Travis laughed, feeling a mix of nerves and relief at how smoothly things were going. "Speaking of that, Mr. Swift..." he began, trying to get the words out before he lost his nerve.
Scott waved him off. "Travis, I've told you to call me Scott multiple times. I thought we were past the formal stuff since we're pretty much family now," he said, with a fatherly grin.
Travis cleared his throat, feeling the weight of the moment settle in. "I think, in this moment, I should call you Mr. Swift," he said, trying to convey the seriousness of what he was about to ask. "Because I would like to ask your daughter to marry me, and I would like your permission."
Scott's face broke into a proud smile. "Son, Andrea and I have had a bet on when you were going to ask for permission to marry our daughter" he laughed. "Yes, of course. But if you're in the Super Bowl with the Eagles again, I'm sorry, I still might root against you."
Jason seized the opportunity and grinned, raising his glass high. "That a boy, Scott. Fly Eagles, Fly!" And before Travis knew it, Jason and Scott were belting out the Philly fight song, their voices blending in perfect harmony as they leaned in closer, shoulders bumping together in camaraderie.
