Chapter 27 - New Year's

It was New Year's Eve.
Aggu was throwing a party on the rooftop of the studio building. It had the perfect view over Berlin so the city's fireworks could be seen.

I held a grudge against Aggu for one more day after our argument. I wasn't going to let him get away with that move like it didn't affect me.
But we talked it out, of course, he was one of my best friends regardless.

I was quite impressed by Aggu's decoration ability. There were fairy lights draped over the edges of the roof, a bonfire lit in the middle. Benches, tables with food and drinks were situated on the side. A few boom boxes played music loudly.
It was the typical constellation of people who came. My friendgroup, 01099, Ennio and his band, Ritter Lean aka Adrian, Zartmann and Aaron.

Joost was currently deep into a conversation with Aggu and Adrian. I stood in front of him with my back pressed against his front. His left arm was loosely drooped around my waist, my hand holding his. It was simply to make sure I was still in his vicinity.
I wasn't an active part in the conversation but I was listening and throwing in a word here and there.

"Baco?", I asked the three men. Bacardi Cola has established itself as our go-to drink.
Aggu denied my offer while the other two gladly accepted. I pecked the back of Joost's hand, spinning out of his grip and earning a smile in return.
Alanis joined me instantly: "I'm glad you are back!" "Couldn't agree more."
"Me too!", Ellie said from my other side.
We made our way to the table with drinks.

Joost's POV.
"Bro I swear if you do something like that again and hurt Lenny, I'll beat you up", Aggu warned, a hint of sarcasm showing.
"I swear I won't", I grinned confidently,"I give you consent to kill me if I do."
"By the amount of times I've listened to Lenny talk about you, I think I'm in love with you too now." Aggu was exaggerating making Adrian and I cackle. I blew him a kiss and replied: "It's okay babe!"
"Seriously though", Adrian declared,"I've never seen Lenny this happy and I've known her for a while now!" I looked over at my girlfriend who stood at a table full of bottles, pouring something in a cup. Her smile was wide as she talked to Alanis and Ellie. I adored her with every ounce of my being.
"I love her."
"We can tell", Aggu and Adrian said in unison, giggling at their synchronisation.

Lennon's POV.
We were getting closer to midnight.
Ennio and I had been caught up in our gossip session that we didn't even realise. Only when Stuntje proudly announced that we had 2 minutes left of 2022.
I'm the kind of person to get emotional over this stuff because I'm really grateful for the memories I got to make with my loved ones, tonight felt more exciting than anything though.

Ennio headed to Zarti and Aaron whilst I looked around for my boyfriend. He wasn't where I had seen him last. Joost stood close to the edge, taking in the atmosphere and the city. I found my place next to him, his eyes averted to me.
"What are you thinking about?", I questioned.
Joost shrugged: "Everything. This year, the next year, right now." I nodded, understanding his point. "I'm thankful I got to meet you, Joost."
His gaze seemed sweet, pulling me into a hug and securing me by my shoulders. My arms wrapped around his torso with my head nuzzled in his chest.

"10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1... Happy New Year!!!", everyone cheered, welcoming 2023.
I looked up at my boyfriend where I met his stare. I smiled broadly, running my hands over his flushed cheeks:
"I love you. Let's do this every year."
"Forever, liefje. I love you."
Our lips connected, cherishing the most precious kiss. It was long and passionate. I was the luckiest person alive to have Joost by my side.
