My due date was approaching.
December wasn't my preferred month since my sensitivity to temperature made it tough. I was constantly cold, or hot. The weight of the human beings in the womb complicated every task, every step and every day.

There were a lot of physical and emotional challenges: back pain, sleep difficulties, mood swings, impatience.
I could name hundreds.

Joost tried his best to make the time at least a little enjoyable. He was being the most supportive expectant father, trying to take care of himself while also keeping up his career and our relationship.

I felt bad for being a burden to him. Joost was basically managing our entire lives. And I wandered around our house at the pace of a slug. A heads up for how many kilos you'll be carrying when you're pregnant with twins would've been nice.

At the moment, I was standing in front of our closet, desperate for a fitting outfit. Joost's next album had been released last night and had to be celebrated, of course. For the sake of my sanity to let our home stay clean, he organised it in a smaller venue in Leeuwarden.

"Baby?!", I shouted whilst scurrying my hands through the piles of clothing.

Joost slipped into the room: "Yeah?"

"Have you seen my dress?", I queried, huffing in strain,"The white one with the lace hem? It's the only one that still fits."

He smiled and in a swift motion threw it at me. I thanked him, taken aback by his perfect timing.

"I knew you would want to wear it", Joost explained before coming over to peck my lips. The corners of my mouth shot up.

——

The party was in full bloom.
Everyone had joined us, not only to celebrate his album but also to let the successful year come to an end.

It was nice to finally reunite with our friends, the distance limited our physical interaction. Mostly, Ellie and Aggu. Since they stayed in Berlin, I had been missing them. In my dreams they also moved to the Netherlands, yet I understood their points.

"Myron!", I squealed, excited to see the woman again. She grinned: "Hallo!!!"
"How are you? I haven't seen you in a while."
"I'm great, Riven is too. What about you? Everything alright?", the blonde was genuinely interested in my situation.

We descended into a mum-talk. Myron gave me advice and let me in on her own experience. She calmed my nerves with her reassurance. There was no need to worry, Myron told me. I tried to believe her.

After I excused myself to the bathroom, my tiredness began to creep up on me. It was way past my bedtime that had established itself over time. Though I could sleep at any moment, honestly.

I dragged my feet to the outside of the venue. My winter coat wrapped around my body tightly to keep me warm. Joost was situated in the smoking area, stepping on his lit cigarette as soon as he saw me. He left the space and neared me.

"Hey liefje", he kissed my forehead.
I blushed at the mixture of cold air and his affection. "Are you tired?"
My half-lidded eyes spoke for themselves as I nodded. Joost caressed the sides of my face, contemplating what to do.
"It's okay, I'll uber back. Stay and have fun, baby", I promised him. Joost's eyebrows knitted together.
"I don't want to leave you home alone."

I sighed, his usual worry was not going to stop him from having a good time, I would make sure: "I'll be fine. I love you, Joost."
I got on my tippy toes to kiss him passionately. He didn't hesitate to kiss back.
"I love you too, Len. Please stay safe and text me when you're home."
I agreed and rested my head on his chest as Joost pulled me in for a hug.
