Sunny liked Basil's costume. It wasn't exactly exciting, but it was cute. Denim overalls, a bit tight around the legs, obviously, since you can't run around in baggy overalls, and he had a long-sleeved lime green shirt underneath. He also had a nice little decorative flower crown on his head, which did look quite adorable.
Of course, the costumes of the others looked nice, too. None of them as "nice" as Peter's, but they all looked pretty good. This was all just being taken in now, as the group was walking to the old city area they used during the exams.
Basil looked quite disappointed since there was very little plant life to work with. Just tiny trees and grass. "Here we are. This will be the building we use." Captain Canuck declared, motioning to a tall and wide building. Inside, through the doors, a set of stairs and a front desk could be seen. Nothing else of note.
"Uh... use for what?" Jay was first to ask.
Captain Canuck turned back to the group. "Well, you see, there is a briefcase inside this building. You will be split into teams of two. Two guarding the briefcase as 'villains' and two stealing it as 'heroes,'" Captain Canuck explained with a smile, "Each team will be decided by random draw, alright? I got a little spinner wheel app, hold on..."
Everyone stood there, awkwardly waiting for Captain Canuck to finish what he was doing. "Alright... just need to enter the names... just a second..." he tapped away at his phone screen, quickly trying to enter everyone's name, "Alright, done! Lucky I have a good memory, heh. Now, everyone else will be up in our observation deck. This building is one of the few with cameras inside, so we can watch what goes on in there. They're in the walls, so uh... preferably, don't destroy everything inside."
Nobody was really opposed to that, obviously, but there was a raising of a hand. "Yes?" Captain Canuck asked, pointing to the hand.
It was Cris, "Why are the heroes the ones stealing something?" She asked with some uncertainty.
"Brilliant question! Heroes have to steal things from villains all the time, whether it be a bomb, a weapon, information, or some other villainous item. Heroes gotta confiscate it! This briefcase could be any of those things, which is why I shall go over the rules of this game right now!" Captain Canuck cleared his throat, and took out a sheet of paper from his pocket, unfolding it carefully, "One, the briefcase must remain completely intact. Both teams want it in one piece. Two, the briefcase can be anywhere inside the building. If the briefcase leaves the building, it is an automatic win for the heroes. Three, the heroes only win if they take the briefcase out of the building, so if they take it, it can be taken back unless they take it outside. Four, the outside of the building is intended to remain in one piece. Jumping through windows is not preferred... the rest of the rules are real obvious, so I won't read 'em," the hero flippantly said, crumpling up the paper and tossing it over his shoulder, "Anyway, the heroes have ten minutes to win. Times up, villains will win."
Everyone seemed to get the picture. Even Mikhael. "Alright, now, time to decide those teams! For heroes we have..." Captain Canuck tapped his phone twice, "Kel and... Cris. And for our villains, we have..." He tapped twice again. The sound of the app spinning the wheel was really annoying. "Kim and... Mikhael."
"Aw, lucky!" Angel and Bebe said at the same time.
"Don't worry, my adoring audience, I know you're disappointed to not be graced with my presence on your respective teams, but I will be with you in the observation quarters shortly.
"Alright, you guys decide where the briefcase is gonna be. It's currently on the third floor. You'll know it when you see it. Move it, guard it, do whatever. You have until we get to the observation floor."
The group then proceeded to follow Captain Canuck to the aforementioned room. It was a bit of a walk since the main building was pretty far from the building they were going to be playing in.
"Wait, are they allowed to use their quirks?" Basil whispered to Sunny.
Sunny had figured out after a week that in literally everything in Captain Canuck's class you were allowed to use your quirk. "Yeah, I'd assume so."
As they entered the room, one of the feeds of the third floor had Mikhael shouting out, not facing a camera, "Are we allowed to use our quirks!?"
"Oh, I didn't mention that... whoops." Captain Canuck clicked a button and an intercom came on. "You can use your quirks, by the way! And uh... just don't kill each other. We have a very efficient doctor, but he isn't exactly a necromancer."
"Sweet!" Mikhael said enthusiastically, then turned around, "Hey, where's the briefcase!?"
Kim could be seen in another feed using her quirk, which had her hands growing to massive sizes, prying open an elevator shaft's doors. She put the briefcase on a ledge in the shaft and then tried pulling the doors closed, which mostly worked. There were just really obvious dents in the doors.
Mikhael rushed over, "Where did you put the briefcase!?" he asked in a panic.
"In there. There's no shot they'll find it now." Kim smirked. Mikhael sighed with relief.
"Alright, good. Don't scare me like that! Now, I think you should go down and meet them. The way my quirk works is that it only heats or cools things in a range. The concrete floors and walls are gonna make that range confined to one floor, but if I can stand by the stairs and exert a bunch of heat, I can keep anyone from making it in here." Mikhael outlined a surprisingly effective plan.
"Alright, nice. I'll start heading downstairs. Get ready to make heat. Could melt the elevator doors, too. Heh." Mikhael confidently declared.
Kim nodded and ran towards the stairs, "You ain't as dumb as you look, Mikhael!" she shouted as she descended.
"Thanks- wai- HEY!" Mikhael shouted after her. He didn't follow, of course. He had a job to do.
Kel and Cris were outside. Cris was doing a few stretches, and Kel was drinking Orange Joe, as always. "Why are you always drinking that soda?" Cris asked, touching her toes, then standing up straight.
"Highest calorie content that doesn't taste like Rockstar." Kel said simply, taking another sip.
Cris began to think, "So, maybe we should go in at the same time. I'll gather some water in advance, and you can-"
Kel crushed the now empty bottle and threw it at a trash can nearby and missed. "No worries, Cris, I got this... aw dang it."
Captain Canuck began counting down, "Three, two, one..."
Everyone prepared themselves, Kim running down to the first floor just in time. Kel didn't even face the front door, looking at a nearby alley instead.
"GO!"
