"How the hell did you get in my driveway?" I ask as my life long best friend Ashton steps out of the car.
"Well hello to you too, bro!" He says and I finally get enough strength back in my body to smile. "It's only been six months, why are you acting like you see a ghost? It's me!"
We embrace and I exhale. "I can't lie, for a second there, I thought you were Liv."
"And seeing Liv is a bad thing?" He questions and I take a deep breath while shaking my head no.
"Bro, how the hell do you know my gate code?" I ask seriously and he laughs.
"It's the same damn code you've been using your entire life! I know a tiger never changes his stripes."
We've been friends long enough to know each other's tendencies. So it makes sense.
"Whatever, man!" I say and he nods in between laughter. "How's ball overseas?"
He sighs. "Apparently, my team thinks I need some more time to heal from an injury I suffered last month."
I look down at his knee brace and exhale in disappointment.
"That shit sucks, for sure! But I got some of the best trainers money can buy. I'll hit them up and they can get you healthy."
"See, a tiger never changes his stripes!" He pats my back as I grab his bags and he follows me inside.
"What do you mean I haven't changed my stripes?" I ask as a loud clap of thunder causes us to look back at the dark grey sky.
"Exactly what I said fool! All I did was mention my injury and you're trying to fix my problem for me. No questions asked." He tells me plainly and I look confused. "It's not a big deal though. It's just who you are. It's your gift and curse. Helping people is like your superpower, but also your kryptonite and achilles heel all rolled into one. I think you get a rush out of that shit or something!"
