"I guess I'll start by saying that I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything." Erika cries and I scoff.

"Start talking!"

"Okay!" She pauses for a second. "I agreed to work as your assistant because I thought it was a way for me to be legit for the first time in a long time."

I don't speak as my teeth grit in frustration.

"Brent and I knew each other for a while. He and I dated on and off. I knew he was into scamming and I accepted it. I even helped him in the past, which is why I will be in a world of trouble for admitting to everything I've done. But I wanted out. I wanted out of all things bad."

"So you came here to clear your conscious?" I ask and she sighs.

"That—- and I got a call from Olivia in the wee hours of the morning. It wasn't long, but I appreciated it. She's—- she's amazing. And she gave me the strength to come clean and rid myself of the past. I don't want to hurt people anymore, Spencer. I just want to live my life without feeling like I'm getting over, you know?"

My eyes water at the thought of Olivia being the sole reason I'm not in an even worse situation.

"So what was the plan? I sign a bad contract and you and him eat off of my money for the rest of your lives?"

"Brent and I had broke things off months ago. I was dating Khalid. The guy in the yellow hoody who beat me up. Which was all staged." She admits and I'm more confused than before.

I shake my head and rub my temples. "Start from the beginning and don't leave anything out."

"Initially, Brent told me you needed help organizing your schedule and I would get paid bi-weekly."

"When did it go from being my assistant to scamming me for 500k?" I ask bluntly.

"When Olivia jumped in the way of you signing that contract. That's when Brent changed the plans. First, he tried to convince me to break the two of you up by getting you to cheat. That way you could sign the contract without Olivia's input. But even that seemed like a tall task. So he aborted that mission and went straight to roughing me up and playing on your kindheartedness. He thought he could get the 500k before Olivia had a chance to figure out the dirty contract."

"Fucking snake," I say and she tries to touch my hand before I pull away. "Don't touch me! You deserve whatever you got coming for you!

"I'm so sorry!" She cries as the policies officer escorts her out of the building.

"Now I know where I know him from—— he scammed my boy Alec in the UK. Got him for like 100k. You're lucky as hell you didn't sign none of his bullshit." Ashton says as he walks up.

"Nah, that's not called luck. That's called Liv." I say back and he smiles. "She saved my ass, bro! She bit the bullet and called a woman she likely can't stand. She's the one who convinced Erika to come clean."
