Forty-five minutes had passed between arriving at the restaurant and finishing our meals. We were trying to figure out who was going to pay for the bill at our table. Layla and I were demanding equality and suggesting that we split it four ways, but the guys wouldn't let us. It was something about how they were our dates and they were attempting to be gentleman and blah blah blah.
"I have an idea," I stated. "Why don't we just play a little credit card roulette?"
Josh and Noah looked at me, then at each other, and then back at me. Layla rolled her eyes at how chivalrous they were being, as I held in a giggle.
"Okay fine," Josh nodded. I grabbed the empty bowl that our bread was in, dropped my card in, and passed it around the table.
The waiter walked up and asked, "Are you still trying to figure out who's paying for the bill?"
"Actually," I smiled handing him the bowl, "could you mix this up and randomly grab a card?"
He chuckled, "A little credit card roulette, huh?"
"Unfortunately, since these men won't let us help pay," Layla crossed her arms annoyed.
Noah rested a hand on her chair and cooed, "It's out of the kindness of our hearts."
"Whatever," she rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at him. A soft smile spread across his face at her quirky action and she couldn't hold back a smirk.
"Okay, the lucky winner is," he grabbed a card out of the bowl and read it aloud, "Noah Taylor."
"Ha," he teased, sticking his tongue out at Layla.
Layla and I must have thought the exact same thing because we rolled our eyes in unison and scoffed. Noah was lucky that he won this round but we were going to pay for a meal someday whether these boys liked it or not.
After he finally paid for the bill we walked out to Josh's car and before I got inside I stopped to admire the sky. The sun was setting and hues of yellow and orange were painted across the horizon.
"That view will never get old for you, will it?" Josh marveled, resting his arm on the top of his vehicle.
"Nope, never," I cooed, grinning like an idiot.
He chuckled, "I know what you mean."
I looked over at him and he was staring at me with his beautiful brown eyes. He really did like me and now more than ever it showed. I gave him a small smile as we both got in the car, and something felt different. It was that usual feeling I felt when he complimented me like I was on cloud nine. This time it wasn't there, absolutely nothing, and my cheeks didn't heat up like a tomato. In that moment I realized that I might have made my decision, but I didn't want to believe it until I was completely sure.

"Damn," I mumbled walking into the gymnasium. I knew what the room was supposed to look like but seeing everyone and everything altogether really blew my vision out of the water. Josh and I walked through the balloon arch side my side and Layla and Noah trailed behind us holding hands. I swear if he wasn't going to ask her tonight I might just have to slap him silly.
"All of our hard work payed off Tar," Layla bubbled.
The four of us strolled over to a long table near one of the nets and I admired the effort that Sadie put into her section of the planning. She had a variety of snacks including chips, grapes and candy. Further down the table was a big bowl of punch and bottles of water, so I decided to pour myself a cup of punch.
"I hate to admit it Lay," I sipped my drink, "but Sadie did her part."
She popped a grape in her mouth and said, "I can't believe the devil herself had it in her."
