The next morning walking into school I felt completely exhausted. It wasn't because I didn't get enough sleep last night, but it was the fact that my brain was working on overdrive. I wholeheartedly knew that I liked Josh and I was super excited to go on a date with him tomorrow. Somehow even with all of that I was questioning my actions towards Beck. Personally things seemed different lately when I was around him, and I didn't understand what they were.
"So how did the chandelier go last night?" Layla asked, as we were standing by our lockers.
I shrugged, "Um, it's going fine. The painting is all done so we just have to add the lights to it."
"Oh okay," she said. "Was there any arguing?"
"Nope, everything was completely normal," I grinned.
"Good morning Terror. Morning Layla," Beck greeted smiling.
"Hi," I squeaked.
"Hey Beck," Layla replied.
He walked over to his locker as Layla raised an eyebrow at me. I could tell that she knew something was up and I didn't know what to tell her. I didn't want to lie to my best friend but I also had no idea what was even going on with me. Everything is just so confusing.
"Are you good?" she questioned. I heard my phone notifications go off so I fished my phone out of my pocket and read the message.
Beck: same time tonight?
Tara: yep yep
I peered my head back up and saw Beck wink at me with a smug grin on his face. He definitely wasn't making this any easier for me. I wish I could take back that brief look I gave him last night because it was absolutely going to his head.
"Tar?" Layla voiced, interrupting my train of thought.
I grinned, "Yep, everything is all good."
"Okay," she replied in disbelief.
---------------
Lunch time rolled around and I still felt drained and mentally tired. I tried my hardest to ignore all the running thoughts in my head, and it was working for the most part. I kept my focus on what I was currently doing which at this moment was eating my grilled cheese sandwich.
"So did you finish all your chores?" I asked.
"Huh, oh yeah, but now my mother wants me to help her redecorate the living room," she rolled her eyes.
"What the heck, why?"
"Well during this time of year," she shook her head, "she really gets into spring cleaning. So I'm obligated to assist her."
I sighed, "Oh."
"Sorry I can't help with the moon Tar. You know that I would if I could," she uttered.
"I know," I nodded. "But you have to do what you have to do, I get it."
She rested her hand on my shoulder, "I'm sure you and Beck can finish it tonight and I have faith that it's going to look superb."
"Yeah I know, but I still wish you were there so it wasn't so awkward," I groaned.
She sipped her milk, "I'm sure it wasn't that awkward. I mean you two seem civil and in one piece today."
Her comment was funny because little did she know we almost were in one piece if things escalated from that glance at his lips. I really needed to just mentally throw that image in my brain trash can.
"More than you know," I mumbled.
I couldn't tell if Layla heard what I said, but she gave me a quick glance and went back to drinking her milk. I really think I should eventually talk to her about this and get her opinion.
