"Hi," Mia beamed, awing at my presence.
She was probably more shocked to see me standing at her doorstep than I was to be there. She was wearing Frozen pajamas and her long blonde hair was down and pin straight. She looked rather tired which made me realize how late it actually was and I was probably interrupting something. I couldn't help but to smile at her cute innocent presence.
"Is your brother-?" I began, but got interrupted when Beck came up behind her.
"Mia, how many times have I told you not to answer the door to strangers?" he scolded, looking down at her.
"But," she pleaded, "it's not a stranger it's Tara. And she's dressed like a princess."
He furrowed his eyebrows at his sister and he directed his attention towards me. His green eyes went wide and his mouth fell agape. He appeared more shocked than ever to see me, which made sense since I wasn't supposed to be here currently. I could feel him checking me out which caused shivers to go down my spine and my cheeks to blush.
"Hi," I waved.
"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at the dance?" he questioned.
I nodded, "Yes, but I needed to tell you something important."
"Hey Mia," he rested his hands on her shoulders, "why don't you go back inside and I'll be there in a little bit."
"Okay, but hurry up," she bubbled, walking back inside.
Beck stepped out on the porch and closed the door behind him. His eyes trailed once again up and down my body which caused my heart to palpitate. I couldn't stop myself from checking out his appearance and I felt the blood rush back to my cheeks as I scanned his black t-shirt and grey joggers that hugged his body perfectly.
I cleared my throat and teased, "Would you stop doing that?"
"Doing what?" he smirked.
I rolled my eyes and smiled, "Checking me out."
"Sorry," he chuckled, "but it's so damn hard not to when you look so beautiful."
"And you thought you were going to miss seeing this tonight," I quipped, gesturing at myself.
"I'm grateful that I didn't. So what did you need to tell me?"
"I've made my decision," I softly voiced.
He nodded and gulped, "Okay."
I took a deep breath and stepped back so I could have a little more space and room to vent. I wasn't completely sure how I was going to say it but I was hoping it would at least spew out in a way that made sense.
"I always thought Josh was going to be my endgame because I was infatuated with him for so long. And now that I think about it all my crush ever was was infatuation. I truly didn't know anything about him like what makes him tick or his family history. The only thing I knew was that he loved basketball and was so fricken gorgeous. I think I was more so fawning over the idea of him instead of the human version of him. And then after six years of having a crush on someone you find out that they finally like you back. All of sudden everything doesn't feel as exciting and you don't feel so giddy."
He nodded in understanding and stuck his hands in his pockets. I took that as a sign that I could keep going because unfortunately my brain had more to say.
I continued, "Layla told me a great piece of advice and that was to pick the world where you can be yourself. It always seemed scary to be my complete self around Josh because I was always nervous that I was going to screw something up. But somehow with you that wasn't the case. Even with all the bickering that we did and the insults I was never afraid to be the real Tara. It took me a while to figure that out but it's always been easy to be myself around you since day one."
