Beck: don't worry I didn't forget about you ;) I'll be there in 5 minutes
An emotion of joy washed over me as I kept rereading his message. I could tell that he was attempting to be funny, but it always ended up sounding flirty. I didn't hate it. I smiled to myself and slid my phone back in my pocket as I walked over to join the others.
"I see that they found the basketball," I chuckled, sidling up to Layla.
Noah passed the ball to Josh and he dribbled it and threw it into the hoop. I had a feeling that this is where those two were going to be the rest of the night. I guess Layla and I would just have to sit on the sidelines and act as cheerleaders.
Layla softly voiced, "So what did he say?"
I grinned, "He's on his way."
"Good," she nodded.
I turned to her and crossed my arms, "So how come you never told me that Noah met your parents?"
"I don't know," she shrugged, "I guess I just never found the right time to tell you. I hope you're not mad."
I rolled my eyes and rested a hand on her shoulder, "Of course I'm not mad about that Lay. I'm just mad that you two aren't together yet."
"Tar, you need to get over that. If we get together as soon as you make your decision will that make you feel better," she smirked.
"Yeah maybe. But there's no way that Noah is going to go along with that," I retorted.
"Sure he will, right Noah," she loudly voiced that last part.
Noah stopped in his tracks and raised an eyebrow at us confused. The poor man didn't have a single clue what we were talking about.
"Uh, right," he shrugged, passing the ball to Josh.
She beamed, "See there you go."
"Whatever," I rolled my eyes, "that doesn't count. Nice try."
"Hey Tara," my mother opened the patio door.
"Yeah?"
"Your friend is here," she grinned.
"Okay."
Layla nudged my shoulder, "Lucky you."
"Stop it," I giggled, pushing her shoulder.
"Be a nice hostess and welcome him in," she winked.
I began walking to the screen door as my cheeks flushed pink. I was embarrassed but excited all at the same time. It didn't make any sense considering how often I have seen Beck outside of school, but today felt different for some reason.
I briefly turned around before heading inside the house and I saw Josh peer at me with an unreadable look. I hated how they were both jealous of each other. They definitely weren't making any of this easy for me.
I strolled toward the front door and there I saw those green eyes staring at me with happiness written on his face. His black hair was messy like always and I hated to say it but I was starting to like his skater boy look.
"Hey, I'm glad you found your way," I smiled, sticking my hands in my back pockets.
"Thanks," he bubbled.
I smirked, and pointed my finger at him, "This doesn't mean you can stalk me now though."
"Okay whatever you say, but no promises," he winked.
I giggled at his joke and his eyes light up as he was watching me. His eyes intently on me caused a blush to surface my face again and in turn did the same to him. What is in the air today? Geez.
