Spilling Emotions

The five of us were eating dinner that my mother made, a scrumptious meal of chicken, broccoli, and mashed potatoes. Layla was on my right at the head of the table, whereas Josh was on my left sitting next to me. Across from us were both of my parents. Apparently my dad came home like three or four hours ago while I was outside. I was delighted though considering how much I favored family dinners.

"So how was the gym, dad?" I asked taking a sip of my milk.

He grinned, "It was as usual."

"Awesome and energizing," I mocked my father.

"You know it pumpkin. I got a great workout in," he added.

I raised an eyebrow at him, "I love you dad, but why are you still working out at the gym every week? You are kind of getting up there in age."

Layla and my mother both giggled at my comment.

"Tara, I'm not even fifty yet, so don't call me old just yet. However, I may not be getting any younger I still like to try to impress your mother," he remarked taking a bite of his broccoli.

My mother wrapped her arms around my dad's arm as they kissed each other. Layla and I looked at each other in pure disgust gagging. Ugh parents are so gross.

After holding in my vomit I glanced over at Josh and he had a cute little grin on his face. I shook my head at him raising an eyebrow.

"What?" he asked.

"How are you not grossed out by their affections? No offense mom and dad, I still love you," I grinned.

My parents peered at each other and then at me chuckling.

"I just think it's endearing that they're still this much in love after how many years they have been together. Plus, it's pretty cool that your dad is still trying to impress your mother to this day. They just remind me of young teenagers," he professed.

"Well thank you Josh, I appreciate that. It's kind of like you and my daughter, young, naive and just trying to win each other over," he quipped.

My eyes went wide and a blush rose on my cheeks.

What the heck dad?!

"Yeah, I can see the awe in your daughter's eyes when she's watching me play ball," he chuckled.

Layla mumbled, "It's more than an awe."

"Layla," I whisper shouted.

She shrugged her shoulders and kept on eating her food.

"But if I'm being honest with you Daniel and Julia, she impressed me more today," he beamed.

"Aw that's sweet," my mother gushed.

"Oh really? How so?" my father asked curiously.

"Josh you don't have to tell them," I sputtered out.

"Why not T? You literally made a basket today, your first one ever."

"Wait seriously? My Tara actually made a basketball go through the net," my dad spouted.

Josh nodded, "Yep she did, I saw it with my own two eyes."

"Well I have to hand it to you Josh, I have been attempting to make that possible for the last how many years. I guess she finally found the right coach," dad chirped.

"I guess so," he smirked at me.

The moment of him touching my arms and getting close to my neck came rushing back sending a shiver down my spine.
