Chapter 15: Vow to kill

The genin, along with their sensei, and the clients continue on their journey to the land of waves.

'How much longer till we reach?', Haku, the boy who seems very reserved, questions.

'Over an hour, we will get there before midnight', Obito answers.

'We never got the chance to thank you. Thank you so much for not abandoning this mission', Akie, the more talkative of the duo, says.

'No problem. It is our duty as ninjas', Naruto answers, passing her a smile.

Akie returns the smile.

'You are not on some date. Stop smiling so much', Kurama says, not liking their interactions.

'What? I am just being civil', Naruto shrugs in response.

'Don't be. Hinata's better anyway'.
'She is',

'Hey, pay attention. We might get attacked again', Sasuke says, breaking Naruto and Kurama's conversation.

'Yeah, sorry', Naruto apologizes.

Hinata's POV

We reached our destination shortly after. It was, surprisingly, a rather small house. I guess Haku wasn't lying when he said their father lost all his property.

As we enter the area, a man who looks to be in his 60s comes forward to greet us. I assume he is Haku and Akie's father.

'Oh, you all are here. My name is Kaito. Thank you for bringing my children to me. I hope you didn't face any complications', Kaito says, a sorry look on his face.

'Father. They figured us out. We got attacked on our way here', Akie says, going towards her father to hug him.

'Oh, I am so sorry. We didn't mean to fool you. We were desperate. I hope you understand', Kaito says with a deep bow.

'It's alright. As troublesome as it is, we chose to continue this mission anyways', Shikamaru replies.

'We should go now. The mission is complete', Obito sensei motions us to gather.

'Are you heading towards Konoha now?' Akie looks toward us.

'No. We are going to stay at a nearby inn tonight, then leave tomorrow', Obito sensei replies.

'Oh, then please spend your night here if you can. That's the least we can offer', Kaito offers.

I look towards Obito sensei to find that he is already looking at us.

Sasuke and I nod, while Shikamaru and Naruto shrug in agreement.

It was decided. The four genin, with their sensei, will spend the night at Kaito's house. It's just a night's stay; what could go wrong?

It turns out much could go wrong.

When they were sleeping, someone trespassed in the house.

It was Naruto who sensed someone first; he sat up quickly and looked around.

Seeing everyone there, he took a sigh of relief.

Next, to do the most logical thing, he went towards his Nii-san to wake him up.

But Naruto didn't need to wake Obito up, as he was already awake. Having just sensed the person or people as well.

'Someone's here', Naruto whispers urgently, having been startled by the sudden intrusion.

'I know. Wake the rest up. All of them. I will go see who's there', Obito says, placing his hand on Naruto's shoulder and calming the boy down.

'Can I come?', he asks, although he knew the answer.

'No, you stay here. When everyone is up. Get Kaito, Akie, and Haru to leave the house from the back exit. You four can then come outside', Obito instructs as he hurries away.

Naruto's POV

'Sasuke', I say, nudging him.

'What?', he says as he opens his eyes, clearly still sleepy.

'We have intruders. Nii-san has gone to check them out. You wake up, Shikamaru, and head outside. I will wake up Hinata and get the family to safety', I say, hoping he will catch on quickly.

He does.

He gets up quickly and goes on to wake up Shikamaru.

I, on the other hand, go towards Hinata.

'Hinata, wake up', I say, shaking her lightly. Being the light sleeper she is, she wakes up quickly.

'Oh, Naruto. What happened?', she replies, rubbing her eyes.

She looks adorable.

'Now is not the time', Kurama, who seems to be up from his slumber, says.

I don't bother answering him; I have more urgent matters at hand.

'Urgent matters, yeah? You got the time to think how adora-'
'Okay, fine, I'm sorry'

'We have intruders. Obito Nii-san has gone to check on the situation. Sasuke has gone to wake up Shikamaru. You should go wake up the family and instruct them to evacuate through the back exit', I fill her on the information.

'Got it. I will meet you outside then?', she asks.

'Yeah, I will be outside. Meet me after ensuring the client's safety', I say as I pat her shoulder.

She quickly gets up to hurry on her given task. I do the same.

Meanwhile, Obito hurries outside to check out the newly found threat.

'Who the heck are you?', Obito questions as he sees a figure in the dark.

'It seems you have found me. I was hoping to just abduct the children and then scurry away', the man with a cloak on his head says.

Obito notices his hair is a shade of silver; another noticeable feature is that he's wearing glasses.

'You are the lackey, not the main villain, right?', he says, getting into a fighting stance.

'And why do you think that is?', the man with the cloak asked.

'Your looks are a dead giveaway', Obito says as he charges at the man.

'I am Kabuto, apprentice of Orochimaru of the Sannin, and will be the cause of your death', Kabuto says, causing Obito to momentarily stop.

'Oh? Orochimaru? I agree with the first part. The latter, though, I will be the one to end you',

Kabuto then performs some hand signs along with a scroll, and a coffin-like structure appears at his side.

'What is this?', Obito, seeing this jutsu for the first time, asks.

'This is Edo Tensei. The second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, created this. What can it do? I will show you',

Moments later, a figure comes out of the coffin. 'Danzo Shimura, your worst nightmare', Kabuto presents.

'A summoning jutsu to bring back the dead. I've heard about it. I guess I will have to kill you again, Danzo', Obito states.

Obito wants to charge immediately, but he knows something has to be done first.

Just then his genin appeared, all looking determined to face the challenge.

'You have mere kids to assist you? I did not expect this of you, Obito', the reincarnation of Danzo's remarks.

'You four take on Kabuto. I will handle Danzo. No questions. I will explain everything later', Obito instructs, and the four Genin nod in reply.

The fight begins.

Obito takes on Danzo. His opponent is familiar, but with a twist of reincarnation. What Kabuto failed to take notice of was that Obito had become stronger, while Danzo was at a disadvantage for not having the sharingans implanted in his arm anymore.

Obito takes the lead in the fight, using his sharingan to predict every move of Danzo. The fight started as a sparring match but quickly escalated as both men started unleashing jutsus.

Obito starts with a fury of chidori, damaging Danzo. To Obito's surprise, he quickly regenerated. 'That's problematic', he mutters at the new-found knowledge.

Their fight continued. Obito damaged Danzo continuously, and Danzo regenerated immediately.

After a while, both men came to a halt. Danzo then looked over to his side, where the Genin were busy fighting Kabuto. 'Isn't that Fugaku's offspring? I would love to kill him.'

'Don't you dare',

Meanwhile, the four genin take on Kabuto. Their lack of abilities compared to their opponent being visible. But their teamwork managed to counter his attacks. They were mostly on defense, gaining as much time as possible until their sensei defeats Danzo.

'We can't defeat him yet; it's better to stall him', Shikamaru says, having already noticed their lack of strength.

Even Naruto's shadow clone jutsu and Sasuke's shuriken jutsu were not on par with their opponents. What they required to win this match was high-level jutsus, which unfortunately, the Genin haven't had the opportunity to learn yet.

'Don't you dare', Obito says to Danzo, who's looking at Sasuke with eyes of hunger.

Unfortunately, Obito was a second slower, as Danzo launched at Sasuke.

'SASUKE!', came the cries of all his teammates at once.

Naruto, though, gets help from Kurama; having an increase in speed, he manages to put himself between Danzo and Sasuke.

Naruto was ready to die for his brother.

But the hit never came.

Obito managed to put Danzo in his genjutsu, manipulating him to undo the edo-tensei. This caused Danzo to crumble like thin sand.

'Oh, it looks like you figured out one of the ways to counter this jutsu. Well done. I will be off now!', Kabuto says as he scurries away.

'Sensei, he's getting away', Hinata says, stating the obvious.

'Let him be. We can't risk anything more right now', Obito says through his pants, considerably tired himself.

'Why the heck did you put yourself between me? You could have died! Are you stupid?!', Sasuke, who's managed to compose himself after the fight, says.

'Tell him he is supposed to thank you'
'You know he's grateful'
'Mhm'

'You're welcome, Sasuke. You would have done the same. Any of us would have done if we could', Naruto says, looking towards his teammates, who all nod in agreement.

'What was that? I thought Danzo was dead',
Shikamaru asks, evidently confused.

'That was the edo-tensei jutsu. It can bring back dead to living. I have never studied about this jutsu, so I didn't know how to stop it. Luckily, Genjutsu was able to counter it', Obito explains.

'Good job, you four. Naruto for immediately understanding the situation, Sasuke and Shikamaru for quickly following without pause, and Hinata for getting our clients to safety', he adds, proud of his students.

'And who was that silver-haired guy?', Naruto asks.

'That was Kabuto. He said he is an apprentice of Orochimaru', Obito replies, knowing Naruto's connection with the Sanin, the person who is responsible for his parents deaths.

Obito did not have to say anything else; Naruto was already determined: 'I vow to kill Orochimaru.'

Naruto's POV

It is the next day. Luckily, Akito and his children were unharmed and safely evacuated.

'I know I have said this countless times already. But we are immensely grateful. We will forever be in debt to you all', Akito says, his head in a deep bow.

'No worries, we managed to gain information that will be beneficial to all due to this mission; our time did not go to waste', Nii-san assures the man.

'Why don't you all move to a secure village like Konoha? You would be protected there', Hinata asks.

'Thank you for the offer, but me and Nii-san have decided to train. We will become strong like you guys, so whenever danger comes, we will be able to protect ourselves', Akie replies, referring to herself and her brother.

'Yes, thank you so much. I am sorry for my rudeness earlier. Just like Father said, we are immensely grateful', Haku adds.

'Alright then, let's go back to the village. Much has to be reported to the Hokage',

With that, Team Seven completed their first A rank.

At Orochimaru's hideout

'What's the result?', Orochimaru asks Kabuto, who has just returned from the earlier encounter.

'We were almost successful if not for Konoha Shinobi interfering. I encountered Tobi of the leaf with his team. It seems to consist of a Nara boy, a Hyuga girl, and most importantly, the Jinchuriki and an Uchiha', Kabuto explains.

'Hmm, a capable team. I need the Uchiha boy; the jinchuriki will be a problem; it seems we have to get our resources from elsewhere now. We will attack Konoha during the upcoming chunin exams', Orochimaru says.

'Oh, and Kabuto, this is your last chance; I will not accept failure from now on', he adds.

Naruto's POV

At the Hokage's office

Standing in the Hokage office were Kakashi Nii-san, Itachi Nii-san, and Team 7.

Just having returned from our mission in the Land of Waves, we give our report to the Hokage.

'So you're telling me I sent you all to a C rank mission, and it turned into an A rank', Ji-chan questions, finding it hard to believe what we had encountered on our mission.

'Yes, Hokage-sama', Obito Nii-san answers.

'You also met Danzo, who died four years ago, and Kabuto, who introduced himself as an apprentice of Orochimaru', Ji-chan confirms further.

'Yes, Hokage-sama', Obito Nii-san answers again, in the same tone.

'You're also telling me that edo tensei, the forbidden jutsu created by the second, was used on Danzo?', Ji-chan asks even further.

'Yes, Hokage-', Obito Nii-san begins to reply once again, but gets interrupted by Ji-chan.

'I swear, if you say yes again, I will-', Ji-chan begins to scold him, but I interfere.

'He's just telling the truth, Ji-chan', I defend him.

'You want to die'

'Ji-chan will never do that'

'Who knows'

'I know; that's what makes it so frustrating', he sighs.

'You guys met Danzo? I am jealous. I wanted to get revenge by taking his eye out in return', Kakashi Nii-san, who previously lost his eye fighting Danzo, says.

'If you had been the one to encounter him, I am sure he would have lost much more than his eye', Itachi Nii-san replies, his dark humor apparent.

'Definitely. His every limb would get-', Obito Nii-san begins to say, but gets interrupted by Ji-chan once again.

'That's enough. Well done, Team 7. You all showed remarkable effort in getting control of the unexpected situation. This information will be very helpful to the village. Even to Jiraiya, who has been on the hunt for Orochimaru', Ji-chan praises us, causing all of us to smile.

'You too, Obito, did well considering you had no given information about the jutsu', he adds.

'We should continue doing D ranks. Look what happened when we took a C rank', Shikamaru sighs.

'It's us we are talking about. I am sure we would manage to somehow cause trouble in our D rank as well', Sasuke says, making us all chuckle.

'Well then, you all are dismissed', Ji-chan says, looking at the bundle of paperwork he has to do.

'Itachi. Convey this information to Jiraiya', he says. 'Yes, Hokage-sama', Itachi Nii-san replies.

With that, we all leave the Hokage's office, done and dusted with our A rank.
