Naruto had successfully convinced Tsunade to return to the leaf. His journey, though, did not end at that. Naruto continued with his training, managing to learn several new things from Jiraiya.

After Tsunade's departure, Naruto focused on learning how to break from genjutsu.

Jiraiya instructed Naruto that normal genjutsu can be broken by disrupting the affected person's chakra flow. This can either be done by themselves or with the help of an ally. Naruto preferred the latter, highly disliking the idea of causing pain to himself.

So with the help of Kurama, chakra got injected into Naruto, breaking the genjutsu much more quickly and effectively.

'What would you do without me?'
'We both would be very lonely.'

'You are lucky to have a good relationship with Kurama; this would've been much harder for you without him', Jiraiya says.

'I know, I am very grateful', Naruto says, showing his gratitude.

Genjutsu was a field Naruto lacked in, but his early assistance from Kurama helped him master at least the basics.

The next thing they focused on was learning wind-based jutsus other than rasengan.

That didn't work out though, as Naruto insisted on having the rasengan as his signature move. So he took the time perfecting it instead.

With the amount of chakra Naruto possesses, he could now easily unleash a fury of rasengans at the opponent.

'Maybe Naruto in another universe would learn a jutsu other than the rasengan', Jiraiya says.

Jiraiya tried to convince Naruto, but he refused, saying he wants to create multiple versions of rasengans instead.

'I doubt it', he replies, being sure of it.

'Sasuke told me that he's learning the chidori. Is it really powerful?', Naruto asks, referring to the letters exchanged between them.

'The chidori is strong, but the rasengan is definitely stronger. Its user has the ability to alter it with multiple chakra signatures', Jiraiya explains. 'You talking with your friends?' he adds, asking.

'Mhm, I am constantly in contact with everyone through letters', Naruto replies.

'Specially Hinata'
'Yeah, so what?'

During his journey, Naruto also tried to combine wind with the rasengan. Unfortunately, it took a toll on his body; he was barely able to stand straight after performing one.

Naruto decided that the wind rasengan would have to wait until he was older.

'A wind rasengan? What do you want to name it?', Jiraiya asks.

'The ultimate wind-flying jutsu combination of rasengan', Naruto answers.

Jiraiya looked at the boy, wanting to know if he was serious or not. It seems he was.

'You are just like Minato; I remember him naming the rasengan something ridiculous like that; Kushina helped him out', Jiraiya remembers.

'Unfortunately, I don't have my mother to help me', Naruto deadpans.

'Damn, this turned dark real quick',

Jiraiya didn't say anything.

Naruto decided to ask his friends about it; surely they would recommend something good.

They didn't; well, most of them didn't.

Sasuke and Shikamaru recommended something noxious. Only Hinata had the courtesy to think thoroughly.

'Rasen-shuriken', Naruto says to Jiraiya, who's enjoying his fifth popsicle of the day.

'That's the name Hinata recommended? I love it', Jiraiya replies.

'Mhm, I do too'.

Next came mastering some sealing techniques.

Naruto mastered the way to seal the reanimations, figuring he would get the need to use them if he still plans on defeating Orochimaru.

'You really want to kill him?', Jiraiya asks, surprised by Naruto's determination.

'Definitely', Naruto confirms.

Wanting to kill Orochimaru was a big deal for Naruto. He wanted to end the person being the cause for the loss of his loved ones. He wanted to avenge his parents.

For the sealing techniques, Naruto focused on learning fuinjutsu. With the help of it, Naruto could now seal objects, living beings, chakras, and a wide variety of other things with another object.

With this, Naruto mastered a solid proof jutsu to counter the reanimations.

Naruto also wanted to learn some Uzumaki sealing techniques, but he could not as Jiraiya was not experienced in them.

'When we go back to Konoha, remind me to give you some of Kushina's notes. They will help you if you have an interest in sealing', Jiraiya says.

'I will', Naruto promises.

***

Keeping it a secret from Jiraiya, Naruto also worked on a seal.

'What are you working on?', Jiraiya asks, obviously curious.

Jiraiya knows Naruto is working on a seal. What is it? He doesn't now. Even after many attempts, bribing through popsicles and such, the great intel master could not get the secret out of the boy.

'Nothing; I will tell you when I am certain it will work', Naruto refuses to disclose.

Naruto tried working on a special seal for a specific person, wanting to make his life easier. But without Kushina's notes, it was practically impossible for the boy to do something about it now.

So the best thing he could do was to make a mental note for him to figure it out when he goes back to Konoha.

Lastly, Naruto was taken by Jiraiya to make the toad contract.

'You prefer toads or foxes?', he asks as they were on the way.

'Tell him that you prefer foxes'.
'Don't worry, I will', (lies)

'I like both. It will be good to have them both to rely on', Naruto says honestly.

'Mount Myoboku, the residency of toads', Jiraiya introduces as they reach their destination.

'Woah' is the first thing that comes out of Naruto's mouth, admiring the scene.

Jiraiya took Naruto to meet the toad sage, a highly respected figure in the community.

'This child. He is the child of prophecy', the toad sage states.

At this, the cavern echoed with the rhythmic chirping of countless toads, their eyes fixed on the boy who held the fate of the world in his hands.

Naruto, obviously confused, looks at Jiraiya, for explanation.

'He means you are immortal'
'Stop joking Kurama'

Jiraiya explained the system of toads to Naruto. How there were different types of toads and how he could make a contract with them.

A toad recommended Naruto learn the sage mode. Jiraiya refused, saying he would rely on the toads for summons and the fox for power.

Naruto agreed.

With much bickering from Kurama with the toads, the contract was finally signed.

'My father was also a toad summoner?', Naruto asks, noticing Minato's name on the contract.

'He was; he was a toad-favourite', Jiraiya reminisces.

The subject Naruto likes to read the most is about the past Hokages, his favorite being his father. Naruto didn't get to spend any time with his father, nor did he get the chance to make memories with him. Still, Naruto feels connected to him, a bond created not only by blood but through inspiration and admiration.

Naruto signed the contract. Now, he had become a Toad Sage, bound by a contract that would forever link him to the toads, a bond forged in blood and determination.

With all that training, enjoying ramen meals and popsicles together, and Jiraiya and Naruto's relationship turning more into friends than sensei and student, years passed by in a blink.

It didn't take five years like Jiraiya expected. Nor did it take fifty like Kurama predicted.

After three years, 12-year-old Naruto was ready to return to the village, learning everything he was meant to for now.
