It had been half a year since Team 7 had formed. Now the four Genin were all 8 years old.
They now stood at training ground 3, where their sensei had asked them to gather.
'I wanted to tell you all about the Chunin exams. They are taking place in a week. Whether you participate or not, it is up to you', Obito explains.
'If any one of us refuses to participate, the others can't either, right? We must participate as a team', Naruto says.
Obito sighs in defeat, 'That is correct. I was not planning to tell you all before the day of the exams, but it seems smarty pants Naruto already knows',
'Aha, sorry, Nii-san', Naruto apologizes, embarrassed that he ruined that anticipation.
'How will we be able to participate? We don't know any high-ranking jutsus, just the basics', Hinata points out, and her teammates nod in agreement.
'That's true. It is unlikely you all will be able to pass, but who knows? The basics are the most important. It's mostly why it is up to your choice whether to participate or not',
'I want to participate; it will be worth the experience', Sasuke says, being the first to decide.
'Yeah, me too', Hinata joins.
'I will too, then', Naruto agrees.
They all turn their heads to look at Shikamaru.
'Ugh, you all are troublesome. I guess I will participate as well', Shikamaru sighs.
'Alright then, I will register you all. The elders will be surprised; it has been a while since a team this young has entered', Obito smirks to himself, anticipating the shocked looks on the faces of the elders.

For the rest of the week, Team 7 trained hard to hone their skills that they already knew. They planned various strategies for them to be able to go through the exams without knowing any high-ranking jutsu.
They told their parents about their participation; most of them were very worried at first but soon complied.

Naruto's POV
The day of the chunin exams has finally come. Team Seven has now assembled at the academy, where the first stage of the Chunin exams will take place.
'Be attentive; don't get distracted easily',
'Yes, Kurama, thanks for the advice'
'Where do we enter from?', Shikamaru asks, wanting to be done with this quickly.
'It seems like there is a genjutsu placed; the students who do not detect it don't get to participate', Sasuke answers.
Sasuke's been improving his genjutsu skills, resulting in him being the first one to detect it.
'Yeah, he is right. Where's sensei though?', Hinata asks, noting the absence of Nii-san.
'He told us that he would meet us inside, so let's go', I answer.
Upon entering, I see many people, all of older age groups than us; there are many from different villages as well.
'This place is so crowded; can you find sensei for us, Naruto?', Hinata asks.
I look for a moment, then sense him; he is on the other side of the room.
'Yeah, follow me', I say, leading them through the crowded place.

'You all are here! Get ready; the tests are being announced right now', Obito Nii-san says as he notices us.
We all begin to take our seats when suddenly I sense a group of people coming towards us.
'You sure are popular', Kurama remarks.
'Perks of being a Jinchuriki?'
'No way, shut up'
'Oh look! Our class is here to meet us!', Hinata says, as she spots our classmates from the academy coming towards us.
This surprises me; I never expected them to come here.
'You all are already taking the chunin exams? I am jealous. We haven't even graduated yet', one person in the large group, whose voice I recognize to be Kiba's, says.
'Yeah, that's so cool! We will be rooting for you all', this time, Sakura says, encouraging all of us.
'Thank you for coming! We appreciate it, don't we? Hinata says, sending looks toward all of us.
'Yeah, thanks for coming', I mumble, Sasuke's and Shikamaru's voices following.
'I suppose meet and greet is done? If yes, head towards the hall; the proctor for the first exam will give you instructions', Obito Nii-san says, causing us all to scurry away.
As we are on our way to the main hall, I spot Mama and Papa in the audience. I nudge Sasuke, causing him to look in that direction. We both waved at them, receiving smiles and waves in return.
'I wish Kakashi Nii-san and Itachi Nii-san were here too', Sasuke sighs, missing them.
'They are here, on guard duty though', I answer, sensing them on the rooftop.

'Welcome to the first stage of the chunin exams. I am Ibiki Morino, your proctor for your first exam', the man with a large, imposing figure and a face covered with scars says. 'The first part of this exam will be a written test consisting of ten questions. I suggest you all take your seats and wait for the exams to be handed out,' he adds.
Upon his instructions, all the Genin began to take their seats.
One by one, the exams are handed out.
Naruto takes a look at the paper in front of him. 'These questions are impossible for a normal person to answer', he thinks.
'Can you answer them though?'
'Yeah, I can. I know most of them; the others, I will take a guess on'.
Naruto then looks over to his teammates.
