This is a sad oneeee
----------------------------------------

It was a warm evening as I set my boat out to sail into the Mediterranean. The waves were calm and the breeze against my skin felt refreshing. I had longed for this peaceful moment since the season had started and now that it was a summer break, I was ready to enjoy time under the radar.

It had been a long time since I had taken my boat out of the Monaco harbor. I had been waiting for the summer break to sail out to the open sea for a few days. Rose had unexpectedly tagged along, but it was a welcomed surprise. I hadn't seen her in quite a while, not actually remembering when the last time was. I knew she was here for a reason.

Rose and I had been best friends since we were four years old. Our moms had been childhood friends, therefore we spent a lot of time together. Rose was two years younger than me, so I always secretly had the upper hand and loved to tease her. Bullying each other was our love language. When it all came down to it, she was my confidant, my ride or die, and the person that I'd always call when I wanted to cause trouble.

Our moms called us yin and yang. Wherever I went, Rose followed and vice versa. We did everything together and even had made a pact to get married to each other when we were ten. Things had changed a lot when I had gone into karting. Rose would be off in school, while I was traveling the world for competitions. I had started making new friends and hanging out with them, wanting to be accepted into the world of racing. I was determined to make a name for myself and eventually follow my dreams of becoming a Formula One driver.

Through our early teenage years, Rose and I still made an effort to see each other and she even tagged along to some of my Formula 3 races. I always make sure to come back home during summer and winter breaks and spend some time with her. We'd catch each other up on the things that we've missed and she'd fill me in and all the latest gossip around town. Seeing her after long periods of time was like a breath of fresh air, a sense of normalcy.

Unfortunately with the heavy demands of racing, I started seeing Rose less frequently. She was busy with school while I was busy moving up the ranks in the racing world. Time got the best of us and the distance between us grew. We'd still try to catch up here and there with quick texts or rushed phone calls, but things weren't the same and we both knew it. Part of me regrets not trying hard enough, assuming that things would always be the same between us, despite growing in different directions. Looking back now, I wish I hadn't taken that aspect for granted.

"You look different. Good different."

"Yeah Maxie, it's called getting older. You haven't seen me for a while."

"As much as I love seeing you after so long, why are you here?"

"Can I tell you a secret?"

"Of course."

"Maxie, I'm here because you and I both know there's something heavy weighing on your heart. I'm here to help you with that. As your best friend, you know I can always tell what you're feeling even if you don't know you're feeling it yet."

A comfortable silence ensued between the two of us, as we laid with our heads looking up at the night sky. I pondered at her words, trying to figure out what she meant. The sound of the waves lapping against the boat, filled the silence.

"Hey Rose, do you remember when our parents used to take us to karting and you'd always cry that you wanted to beat me?"

"Yeah, what about it?"

"Well, I'm just reminding you that I always won."

"Asshole" Rose screeched while throwing one of the decor pillows at my head.
