"No, I'm not going and you can't make me. Why would you agree to this without asking me" Max responded to his friends, frustration evident. He started walking towards the kitchen, trying to escape the conversation. Lately he would just avoid confrontation.

Charles stood in from of him, blocking him, giving him 'the look' and forcing him back to the couch. Charles and Lando were over his apartment trying to convince him to go on a blind date later tonight. It had been 4 months since Max last dated anyone, his last relationship crumbling right before the end of the season. Now it was the start of the winter break and his friends wanted to help him get himself out there, since he refused to do so himself.

Charles put his hand on Max's shoulder. "Mate, listen you haven't even looked at a girl in months. Alexandra says that her friend would really hit it off with you. It's just dinner with a beautiful girl, I don't know why you're being so difficult. Give it a chance, you never know."

"I do know. I always know how this goes. Most of these girls talk about themselves the entire time and obsess over the fact that I drive in F1." Charles shook his head at how close minded and difficult his friend was being.

The truth was Max was being difficult because he hated to admit that he wasn't over his ex. In theory he was, but seeing her all over social media with another man hurt him. It hurt him when he found out she was cheating while he was traveling for races. So deep down he was trying to protect himself from more heartbreak, taking a break from dating altogether. He know his friends had the best intentions, but he wasn't ready.

Max had been hurt too many times before. Years of disappointment caused his to build iron walls up, never letting them down for 'love.' He really thought his ex was endgame, but only when he truly opened up to her, did she hurt him and break his trust. He made a promise to himself to proceed with caution next time he opened himself up to someone.

Lando chimed in, "Lucy is such a sweet girl, yeah she likes Formula One, but she's super smart and owns her own bakery. I think you should give her a chance, it's only one date. Fucking hell she bakes the best cakes I've ever had."

Max rolled his eyes. He knew there was no way getting out of this blind date, especially since Charles had confirmed it with his girlfriend already. He sighed and leaned his head back on the couch. "Fuck it, I'll go. But only one date. And show me her picture, so I know which one she is" he finally relented. Charles and Lando both shared a look and high fived each other.

"Now can we please get back to the game so I can beat your asses again?" Max teased.

A few blocks over, the same conversation was going on in Lucy's apartment. Alexandra was attempting to convince her friend to go on a blind date with her boyfriends best friend. She was always trying to set Lucy up, and every time she was shot down. This time around she wasn't giving up so easily, especially since Charles just texted her that Max said yes.

"Alex, I appreciate you trying to set me up...I really do..But I'm far too busy with the holidays coming up."

As Max feared opening himself up to someone, Lucy was insecure about herself. Max Verstappen was a famous F1 driver, 3 time world champion. Sure Lucy knew she was beautiful, she was confident in herself and got lots of male attention. But she feared she wouldn't be up to standards with the type of woman Max dated. He was rich and famous, could date any model he wanted. What if she was too simple? Too boring?
