029. TOO BUSY FOR CHRISTMAS

Chapter twenty nine

"Too busy for Christmas." 

And since leaving Thor, the guardians had purchased Knowhere from the collector and now made it their brand new home, where Mantis, Atara, Kraglin, Drax and Nebula were all standing on one of the balcony's looking down below, as Kraglin told them a story from when Peter was younger about the earthly holiday Christmas which Atara found out about thanks to Peter's grandfather "me and Peter decorating a tree when Yondu came in yelling, what in the fires of Ogord ya'll think you doing? And that's when Peter began to explain to hm about the the tradition of Christmas which happens once a year on Earth where everyone get's presents for each other. So Peter decided to get gifts and a tree for everyone and I obviously helped him out." he shared, sighing.

"But Yondu didn't like it, knocking the present Peter got for him out of his hand and said, don't come at me with no damn gifts. What a ravanger get's, he works for. We ain't about no damn handouts. Where Peter then tried to tell him it was a sign of appreciation but Yondu turned it into a sentiment which you know Yondu back then wasn't exactly all okay with it and believed it would get you killed and told me I should know better. Where he then told us to get the crap out of there and if we didn't have it out by the time he got back then we'd be cleaning the latrines for the rest of the damn year. Where he then picked up the tree and started smashing it. And told us he hated Christmas. And that's how Yondu ruined Christmas forever." he shared.

"That is so sad." Mantis told him, as Drax laughed "I like the part where Yondu kicked over the tree." he shared "it's not supposed to be funny. I mean in those years I spent on Earth with Peter's grandfather, Christmas always made people happy. And he had told me that having someone their to celebrate it with made him happy. And then I also saw this called snow for the first time, it's white and cold and falls from the sky, it was one of the first times I genuinely smiled since Peter was gone. And according to the multi calendar it's almost Christmas on Earth again." Atara shared.

"Yondu had a point. Ever since buying Knowhere from the collector, we don't have time for trivialities like Christmas. This place needs a lot of fixing up before it's livable." Nebula shared "yeah, I reckon we've got work to do." Kraglen shared "yeah." Nebula said, as the two turned walking off, Atara looked down at the ring on her finger, as Mantis turned to her "that was such a heartbreaking story." she said "I know. I hate stories where everybody lives." Drax shared.

As Atara looked from her ring and down at Peter who was working, he signed for a package and then began walking off past Rocket and Cosmo where Rocket was practicing her telekinesis, where Atara kept her eyes on Peter where he finished something else and walked over to the band "hey, Peter." Bzermikitokolok told him "oh. Hi, Bzermikiitokolok." Peter told him "my bandmates and I have been mastering these old Earth instruments and working on a little ditty. And I thought you might be able to help us out as it's about one of your Earth traditions." Bzermikitokolok told him "oh?" Peter asked "Christmas."  Bzermikitokolok he told him.

"Oh." Peter said "everything I know about Christmas, I learned from Rocket, who learned from Atara who learned from your grandfather so I thought I might just take it back t the source and make sure I understand this all correctly. This is, after all, a historical document." Bzermikitokolok told him "okay. Yeah, sure." Peter told him "okay." Bzermikitokolok told him as he started playing his guitar and singing.

"Out on the third planet closest to the sun

There's a special celebration
And it sounds quite fun
A jolly old fellow brings toys to everyone
On a holiday they call Christmas."
