017. MARRY ME

Chapter seventeen

"Marry me."

It had been two years since they saved the galaxy once again, and in those two years they continued saving other planets on more of a smaller scale like helping stop on going war but also in that time Groot had turned from a baby into a teen who didn't want to clean his room and left his branches all over the place and just wanted to play his video game and gave everyone an attitude when they spoke to him which was something Atara missed cause even when he was older he was kind and mean when he had to be.

The other change was that Peter and Atara had been dating during that time which they all were glad about seeing as they didn't have to deal with the silent pining and the longing looks towards each other anymore, but it meant that Peter and Atara wanted to spend time alone which didn't just mean behind closed doors in the bedroom where the two could be as one but also eating dinner together, and spending time just sitting and talking like they used to.

Where as three years were coming around Peter realized that with how dangerous their life was of being the guardians of the galaxy, that he didn't just want her to be his girlfriend but his wife, so one night he had made dinner for them set up a table with candles and everything and was sure the two would be alone, but didn't notice Rocket walking up "oh look at that you've made dinner for just the two of us!" he voiced, as Peter turned around "what? No! This isn't for you." he told him "so it's for me then?" Drax asked, walking up.

"No, this isn't for either of you! This is for me and Atara!" Peter voiced, looking behind them to see if she was coming, someone touched his arm, making him jump "you are nervous." Mantis told him, as Peter looked to her "nervous? I'm not nervous!" he voiced "why would you be nervous about dinner? You've had dinner alone with Atara hundreds of times!" Drax voiced, and as he did "yeah but this is different." Peter shared, putting his hands in his pockets "different? How?" Mantis asked, as realization began to fall onto Rocket "he's gonna ask Red to marry him." he shared.

"What!" Mantis and Drax voiced "I am groot!" Groot voiced, as Peter shushed them all "yes! I am going to ask her to marry me but if you all keep talking about it, she's gonna hear you and it's gonna ruin the whole thing." he shared, as Rocket laughed "I think you'e gonna do that all on your own." he shared "yeah, your sweating. It's disgusting." Drax mentioned "I am groot." Groot said "your all not even supposed to be here!" Peter voiced, as footsteps could be heard, they all got nervous, but the person who walked in was Gamora.

"She's coming." Gamora informed them, and when she did, Mantis began running off and as she did, Drax furrowed her brows "where are you going?" he asked, as Mantis grabbed his arm and dragged him off "but I wanna stay and see how this goes!" Rocket voiced, laughing, Gamora grabbed him and Groot, dragging them off.

And as she did, they passed Atara down the hallway, as she walked into the room finding Peter standing there, he was looking away from her, as she walked up to him "when Gamora said there was a surprise for me I was a bit worried seeing as some of them don't understand that surprises are supposed to be good things." she shared, chuckling, Peter turned to her "yeah, um, they all thought this dinner was for them it was very surprising." he shared, making Atara laugh, so did Peter, as the two were then looking at each other.

You're the inspiration by Chicago began playing through the ship, where Peter's eyes went wide, where Rocket who was by the zune was laughing, while Atara looked into Peter's eyes.

And as the instrumental came in, Peter cleared his throat, gaining the confidence as he stepped toward's her "and I do, I do need you." he told her, as the song continued playing in the background, Atara went to speak, but Peter beat her to it "and I know what you're gonna say. You're gonna say, you already have me. But the thing is our lives? Our job? It's crazy! Dangerous but fun! And never in my life had I thought I'd want to do it with other people let alone love someone after I lost my mother." he shared, sticking his hand in his pocket.

"To me you were always a fantasy something Yondu would tell me would never happen, that I'd never find you but I always dreamed of it, and the moment I realized who you were I couldn't believe you were real. And I know I've told you about how I felt when I saw you dying back on Knowhere but when I was holding the stone I was seeing my dead mother and when you grabbed onto me, you brought me back, and that same thing happened when my father told me that I was killing you, that I've always been yours." he shared, going down on one knee.

"And it's you I want by my side at the end of it all, whether it be on a mission or old age." he added on, opening a box, revealing a gold ring that had a huge diamond on it which must've cost a lot of units "will you marry me?" he asked her, and as he did, Atara was crying, as she nodded "yes!" she voiced, holding her hand out, Peter put the ring on her finger, as he stood up, kissing her, Atara kissed him back "yes!" Drax voiced from the hallway, as Gamora punched him "ow!" Drax voiced, making Atara and Peter laugh as they pulled apart.
