Mudclaw was sitting outside the abandoned two-legden. A soft breeze was ruffling his fur. He missed the moor. How could ThunderClan stand the forest?
Mudclaw stood up and limped into the den. He didn't want his scent to carry. ThunderClan cats hardly ventured here, so it was a good spot to hide out. And even when cats did show up he and Hawkfrost had plenty of warning.
Mudclaw headed over to his nest and settled down.
“Hawkfrost, why are you watching me?” Mudclaw didn't even look up.
Hawkfrost jumped to the ground. “I wasn't.” he huffed.
Mudclaw rolled onto his back. “Hey Hawk,”
Hawkfrost turned to him. “What is it, Mudpuddle?”
Mudclaw stretched. “How did you survive? All you told me was that Brambleclaw stabbed you and you almost died. But that doesn't explain what happened to your eye.”
Hawkfrost sighed. “It’s a long story.”
Mudclaw shifted closer to Hawkfrost. “We've got all night.”
Hawkfrost smiled. “Alright so after I was stabbed  I waited until the other cats left then I dragged myself away from the lake. I met a cat named Yew -like the tree-. And he helped me out. A while after I moved on from Yew's help I got attacked by a hawk, that's what half blinded me. And then I met you.” he signalled to his scar with his tail. “And that's what happened. What about you?” he turned to Mudclaw.
Mudclaw looked up through a hole in the roof. “Well the tree didn't kill me, it just crushed my leg. I dragged myself out of the wreckage and came here. Marigold helped me. She wanted to have her two-leg help me but I refused. I obviously don't trust them. When I came across you. . . I didn't feel any contempt. I just felt sympathetic.” Mudclaw explained.
Hawkfrost nodded. He suddenly sat up. “Did you hear that?” he asked.
Mudclaw pricked his ears. “Hear what?”
A shrill cry sounded. “That.” Hawkfrost replied.
Hawkfrost and Mudclaw walked out into the night.
Mudclaw scented the air. He could smell blood and the scent of a kit.
Mudclaw looked around, he spotted a small black kit crouched under a tree.
Mudclaw nudged Hawkfrost. Hawkfrost turned and spotted the kit.
Mudclaw took a step towards the kit. “Hey little one, what are you doing out here alone?” he asked gently.
The little kit slowly walked forward, there was a wound across her hind leg. “My mama taked me here.” she told him.
Mudclaw felt a stab of sadness. Poor kit. . . He thought. Hawkfrost glanced at Mudclaw.
“What happened to your leg little one?” Hawkfrost asked.
“Uh Mama said I'm not allowed to tell.” The kit answered.
Mudclaw’s jaw clenched. If we ever find this she-cat. . . I'll kill her! He decided, outrage coursing through him.
Hawkfrost walked over to the kit. “Why don't you come with us? We have some herbs that can help your leg.”
The black kit nodded. “Ok. It hurts a lot.”
Hawkfrost picked her up and they headed back into the abandoned two-legden.

After they settled the kit down and patched her wound, Mudclaw turned to Hawkfrost. “What should we name her?”
Hawkfrost shrugged. “Im thinking. . . Mothheart or Brambleheart.”
Mudclaw half nodded. “Alright.”
Cute. He's going to name her after one of his siblings. Mudclaw thought.
Hawkfrost tipped his head. “Well Brambleclaw is my favorite sibling between the two so let's name her Brambleheart.”
Mudclaw nodded. “Lovely.”
