: Apologies part 1 :

Brambleclaw laid in his nest. He couldn't help worrying about Ashfur. The grey tom had become very thin. It was quite concerning.
And then there's Squirrelflight. . . Brambleclaw had to apologize to her. He would never be able to move on without apologizing.
Brambleclaw spent the rest of the night coming up with his plan.

The next morning was an anxious one. Brambleclaw couldn't be to obvious. He would have to assign patrols carefully.
This would be so much easier if Ashfur and Hollyleaf weren't still confined to camp. He thought.
Speaking of. . .
Ashfur padded over to him. “Hi.” he dipped his head.
A polite greeting, that's new. Brambleclaw silently remarked.
“Just tend to the elders today.” Brambleclaw instructed.
Ashfur nodded and padded away.
That's it? No growling? No nothing? He blinked in surprise. He's improving. . . Brambleclaw felt a prickle of pride. Maybe his efforts weren't so wasted after all.

Brambleclaw went on patrol with Lionblaze and Squirrelflight.
Now I just need to be alone with Squirrelflight. That wouldn't be too difficult. Lionblaze practically refused to go near her.
Brambleclaw took a deep breath and turned to Squirrelflight. “Squrrielflight. I need to talk to you.”
Squirrelflight’s gaze sparked with hope. That almost caused Brambleclaw to wince. “I just want to apologize. . . For leaving you like I did. It isn't right for me to keep ignoring you like we weren't mates. It was never your fault. I hope you know that.” he throat tightened with emotion.
Squirrelflight blinked. “Maybe. . . We could get back together?” she didn't sound very enthusiastic. . . Just sad. . .
Brambleclaw wasn't at all inclined to say yes. Not even for a second. He knew now where his heart lay. “No Squirrelflight. We shouldn't be together. We should never have been together. We need to both move on.”
Squirrelflight nodded. “You like someone else? That's it. . . You want her. . . Not me.”
It's my fault she thinks that. . . Brambleclaw felt guilt stab him. “Him. . .”
Squirrelflight blinked. “. . . I see. . .”
The two continued the patrol silently, occasionally Brambleclaw would spot Lionblaze between the trees. He was too close to not have heard the entire conversation.
Brambleclaw walked over to Lionblaze.
The golden tabby turned to him.
“You heard that, didn't you?” Brambleclaw questioned.
Lionblaze nodded. “Yeah. I did.”
“You can't completely blame Squirrelflight. She just wanted to help her sister.” Brambleclaw said.
Lionblaze looked down. “Ok maybe that's true. But what's Leafpool’s excuse?”
Brambleclaw shook his head. “It just pains me to see how your relationship has crumbled.”
Lionblaze grumbled something inaudible under his breath.

The patrol continued without any further issue.
Brambleclaw caught Ashfur staring at him. The grey tom’s gaze was full of admiration.
Ashfur looked away quickly as Brambleclaw caught his gaze.
Brambleclaw’s whiskers twitched with amusement. Well at least the feeling is mutual. He thought.
There had been a few times Brambleclaw caught himself staring at Ashfur. Though Ashfur had never noticed.
Ashfur was a handsome tom, his fur was soft. The three different shades of grey speckles on his fur were intriguing. And his eyes. . . Deep dark blue eyes. Such a beautiful shade of blue. Brambleclaw hardly ever noticed the large scar along Ashfur's throat. And even when he did, he didn't care. A scar had nothing to do with his handsomeness.
Brambleclaw realized that he had been staring at Ashfur. He turned and headed into the medicine den.
Jayfeather looked up. “What is it Brambleclaw?” he asked, sounding grumpy as always.
“Jayfeather, how are the herb stores?” Brambleclaw asked.
“I’m running low on marigold.” Jayfeather responded.
“Maybe I could help you gather some, that way if we find a large amount we can gather more of it.” Brambleclaw offered.
Jayfeather narrowed his eyes, then nodded. “Alright.”

An: Why have I dedicated so much time to this? Lol. I have no regrets.
