To Court Her

Irene and Arlo arrived at the tavern. Like always the tavern are full with customers.
Seeing all the food and item they brought back, Old Judy and Lydia was so surprised.
"Why are they so many things you bought? Does the piled up supplies in our kitchen seem to be few to you?" Old Judy nags.
"I didn't buy any of this. The town folks give Arlo for free. Here, let me introduce you our town hero." Irene then told them about what happened in the market. Both Lydia and Old Judy were impressed.
Arlo could only accept their compliments sheepishly.
"Let bring all of this to the back."
The three of them then goes to kitchen, while Lydia serve the customer in front.
Arrives at the back, Irene notice Lucas is cutting all the cabbages. He suddenly looks up. Irene frantically look away.
"Thank you for your hardwork. You must be tired from all the cutting." Old Judy thanked him, as she carried the rest of the vegetables that have been sliced.
"Not at all, I rather happy that I can offer some help." Lucas stated as he glances at Irene.
Old Judy then notice a gush of blood on Lucas arm.
"Oh no, did get you get injured?" Old Judy pointed out towards his arm.
Hearing that, Irene and Arlo take a look of it.
"I might have reopened my old wound. It's alright, I will tend to it later." Lucas said calmly.
"No, this can't do. You must go re-wrap your wound. Here, let Arlo take your place. You go to rest." Old Judy exchanges Lucas from the seat to Arlo.
Just as Old Judy pushes Lucas out, she also called out Irene.
"Irene, you go help tend to his wound."
"Wha....but I..." Irene was just about to reject, but Old Judy forced her out.
"No excuses, hurry go with him."
Arlo could only watch Irene being pulled out until she was gone from his sight.

In front of Lucas room, Irene hesitates for a minutes before knocking on the door. She comes into the room. Both share a look at eachother, but Irene broke her gaze away first.
Lucas watches her set out her tool.
She then took a sit beside him.
Irene reaches up to his arm.
Lucas watch her, as she focus on cleaning his wound.
"Irene...mind if I ask?"
"Ask away." Irene said, as she then apply some ointment on the wound.
"What do you plan to do in the future?"
"Me? Hmm....I'm not sure. But for now, I probably be staying here, and help grown Old Judy business. At the same time, help anyone who seek medical attention." Irene share her thoughts.
"Will you be staying long?"
"Probably...." Irene wasn't even sure if she would be here for that long. All she knows is that she will do anything that's worthwhile while still in this world. She is likely to return to her world in the future. She could only give him a succinct response.
While wrapping the wound on his arm, Lucas watches her gentle movements with such fondness. He usually doesn't like such closeness with others. But with her, he feels so comfortable and safe. And seeing how she tends to him with such care, he came to conclusions.
Finish wrapping his wound, Irene then notice how he's been staring at her.
"What wrong?" Irene wonders if something wrong.
Lucas just shake his head as he smiles.
"I'm just looking at you."
"Me? Is there something on my face?" Irene quickly touches the bind of her veil. Worried that her face might be revealed.
"Beauty."
Hearing that word, Irene was momentarily stunned. She gazes at Lucas as his smile widens.
"I was looking at how beautiful you are."
Irene heart start to beat loudly. She can feel her cheek and ear are getting hotter. What is this casanova speech? Why are the male protagonist saying this to her?
As she couldn't predict the male protagonist behaviour, Irene ignored his compliment.
She then arrange her tool as to leave the room.
"Irene." The male protagonist called her.
Irene stop her track. She then turn to look at him.
"If it's alright with you, I want to be a part of your future." Lucas declared. Irene frown as she didn't understand what he meant.
"I want to marry you."
Hearing such declaration, Irene was shocked.
"Marry?? You're not serious?" Irene have to make sure that she's not hearing this wrong.
"Irene, I already decided that I want to take responsibility of you. You don't have to worry, I will take care of you."
"Your holiness, you don't need to do such things. You don't have to sacrifice your happiness just for me. I don't need you to be responsible to me." When Irene heard that he wants to take responsibility, she finally realise why he proposed to her.
"I already think it through. And I'm a man of my words. You will not suffer any
grievance with me."
"Your holiness, do you love me?"
Such questions left Lucas baffled.
"You don't. You only want to marry me, because you feel responsible for what had happened that day. I don't wish to be with someone who doesn't love me. And I certainly don't want to spend my entire life with someone who I didn't love." Irene expresses her true feelings, hoping it would change Lucas mind.
"I do not resent you for what had happened. It was just a mistake. Beside, such accident does not implicate my chastity. I'm happy and content with my life here. So, I will consider that you never mention this matter anymore. Have a good rest, your holiness." Irene quickly exited the room. Leaving Lucas to contemplating his thoughts.
